Flipping Ek! I hope my insurance hasnt gone UP £200

Featured Replies

Hello All,

My insurance in due for renewal this time next month.

I paid £400 last year, then with my new engine and mods it went up about £18

So this year i will *touch wood* have 4 years no claims, so i would want to protect them. Also get an agreed value & i want to be able to drive other cars (I'm 22)

I went on HIC website and they just emailed me a quote of £689! I dont even have any convictions or accidents.

Now i know that the extras i want will be a little more, but neally £200 i was not expecting that! I am currently with Adrian Flux so i have to hope now that they are more reasonable and give me a good renewal price.

I thought the more no claims you had the lower the price! this must only apply to 1,2 & 3 years NCB.

it usually five years NCB that gets the maximum discount I thought!

Just get a quote from Flux again then, different companies will be vastly cdifferent.

Also, I don't think you'll get to drive other cars, I thought you had to be 25 for that? I know I couldn't do that less than 25. Maybe it's a different rule for girls though?

It's what insurance companies do in the hope you won't be arsed and will just renew without thinking of it.

I'm 22 and my insurance lets me drive other peoples cars! I'm with Prestige.

some insurance companys let you pay extra to drive any car third party. I've never been with an underwriter that lets me yet, but lots of people i know under 25 have had it on their policy's latley.

Quinn do iirc, try them

We always send out our best renewals prices. But if you manage to beat it then do let us know and we shall see what we can do to match it or beat it.

That sounds a little off to me, if you always send your 'best' prices out then how can you possible match or beat a lower one!

Not getting at you personally mate, but that is why I HATE insurers!

They're all politicians at heart!

I thought if you where fully comp and have the owners permission you could drive anyones car within reason?

Only if you're covered by your own insurance to drive others or if the persons car your driving has insurance which covers anyone...

Depends on the insurance company...

Thanks Dan but how on earth does that work, how can you give me your best price if you can then beat it if i find one cheaper? why can't you just give me a cheap quote in the first place so i dont need to go look elsewhere lol

Should get my renewal price any day now

yeh that was the only downside to it :-( but it does not matter to me that much. Just thought if i could have it as an option i would.

Adrian flux wont tell me over the phone my renewal price, after waiting on hold for 15 minutes i was told 'you'll get it in the post on the 24th' so looks like i'll have to wait to see there prices.

So apart from Adrian Flux, HIC & Brentacre any one else know any other places i can ring for modified car quotes?

I understand Insurance can be such a headache at times.

What we do is search all our insurers upon renewal. We then send out the best renewal we have. If you then manage to beat it we can go to the insurer with that information and get them to re assess their quote. Sometimes they need proof of the cheaper quote but mostly they accept your word for it and will do their best to either match what you have had or beat it.

We always do what we can, Because you're right we don't want to lose customers.

This is an entitlement that has restriction on it such as over 25 etc. Always check your policy to see if you have the entitlement.

At risk of sounding like a chav, buy a copy of max power/revs/some other barry boy publication and have a look through the insurance companies in the back. I got a fairly nice quote off Hyperformance.

Well spoke to adrian flux this morning.

they have managed to beat BrentAcre quote by £10 which is good.

Although the lady i spoke to said that i cannot have an agreed value - now i was told last year that for an extra £15 ontop of your policy you could have this, but only when tyou take out the policy you cant do it halfway through, so i am a bit dissapointed by this. As really i need an agreed value incase anything happened to the car.

I'm now tempted to ring brentacre back and see what they say.

Does Brentacres quote at £10 more include agreed value, if it does then surley its worth the extra £10
