just put a philj 4 branch st/stl manifold onto my son's mk2 1.3s-it already had a powerflow st/stl system from a year or so ago,the new manifold terminates in a flange with large holes,the ex. people made up an adaptor and bolted new to old directly,disgarding the old flexi and using their own wire mesh affair.So-my queries are these; I guess originally the large holes in the manifold flange were for some sort of spring connection-was this important?

The system had been made from 1"1/2 tube-is this going to restrict things at all,although the only mods envisaged at the moment are,new weber,gk inlet man.(got one-hurrah!) and of course the 4 branch.

Was the new flexi really neccessary?-the whole system is rock solid,by the way they took a lot of trouble to improve the mounts,using really thick rubbers and -a sort of rubber "D" mount-from a mini apparently,i was impressed by their work.

Also by the way,I used st/stl dome head nuts to bolt the manifold on,and to fix the hot air plate thing-looks good enough to eat!

id say it still needs some kind of flexi , remember the engine moves alot and the exhaust would crack somewhere otherwise

cant see 1.5" being restrictive on a 1300, infact too big will slow them down

The PhilJ Mk2 manifold I had just slid into the standard exhaust, and you clamped it on with exhaust clamps. The Mk4 style one has that spring clip style flange though... Wonder if you've been sent the wrong one?

I'm thinking the same thing. My mk2/3 one I got from PhilJ just slid into my exhaust system and I had to use clamps to secure it.

Thanks-probably wrong manifold-there was a lambda boss which had to be blanked as well-oh well all sorted now,was just a bit concerned in case the spring connectors were an important part of the job.
