Got these off Andy_Casey yesterday.... started on them almost straight away!

gave them a clean and degrease with hot water and fairy liquid, then started sanding them down this morning then masked them off and started priming them up in my new spray booth aka conservatory!

here is how they stand now... ready for the paint now. the silver centre cap is the colour they will be when i have finished with them!

They're not gonna be absolutely concourse because A: I'm a newbie to refurbing and spraying and B: i only intended to freshen them up and C: to add a bit more width to the squareback!

Did you flat back the primer mate ?

Id flat it back withthe highest grit you can get your hands on before you paint mate

yeee agree with mr zombie, if yoru going to do it atleast make it look like you know what your doing

they can be swapped to the otherside with just a screw driver and hammer. no messing, silver with black recesses, or black with sillver recesses.

wheels are balanced from both sides, so depending on how far out they are they may require weights both sides. it isent as easy as swopping the weights to the other side as then you have a inner lip out of balance and a outer lip out of balance where as if he takes them of and gets them redone with sticky versions on the insides they will eb correct

maybe he left them on so he doesnt have to get them balanced again

he did say BUDGET!

but when he swops tyres (if he swops tyres) he will have to sand back and respray.. something which will cost more than its worth if he did it now , see where I'm coming from

i'm merely freshening them up a bit... they were never meant to be in concourse condition! will look into the whole balancing thing but for the time being they're staying as they are.

removed the balancing weights and they look a lot better now! cheers for the heads up polomon et al.

a couple of coats of lacquer tonight is needed then getting new rubber tomorrow, 2 of the tyres are fine, the new ones will be going upfront :)

was in the conservatory so pretty well ventilated and shut off from anywhere else!

They look good. Not bad for a budget refurb.

I´d like to say OMG! Boy, if you know you need some new tyres, pls remove your old ones first! Now you gonna have 2 valves in silver and 2 in black.

It makes no sense to overspray on usefull tyres too btw. An old newspaper to cover them shouldn´t cost you any p.

cheers for words of advice mate... obviously my second attempt will be better than my first attempt. i can rectify the overspray pretty easily and if needby change the colour of the valves!

Yeah, but it´s wasted time you can easily avoid.

I admire the approach to let some old Hockenheims look fresh, but can´t understand why you´re working so ghetto?!

I spraypainted a set of Hockenheims some years ago to rock them on my red ´heck. I did remove valves and weights before - thats not such an expense..

I've got to say, you might aswell have not bothered with the masking tape at all

Good effort i think.

Got 2 new tyres up front today, fitted the rear wheels and got them all balanced up and tracked.

not if you're careful with the tape and want to save a bit of money. I left the tyres on my castellets when I repainted them and they turned out fine.

looking sweet man, i cant help but think they'd look even better in black or an anthracite grey colour.
