Well, i've been on here for about a year now and thought it might be about time I stick some pics of my Polo up!

She's a 1.4 SE and although not highest performance, i'm more than happy. Fantastic car for nipping around the city and reliable with good fuel consumption for the motorway driving.

Mostly small, cosmestic and inexpensive mods done so far, but all comments/suggestions/cristism welcome!

Model: MK7 Polo

Engine: 1.4 SE

Suspension: Standard

Brakes: Standard

Wheels and Tyres: Polo GTi Monza's, 16", Dunlops

Exterior Styling: GTi grille, lower honeycombe grille, rain deflectors and painted calipers

Interior Styling: Replaced cubby

ICE and Security: JVC USB cd head unit

Picked up very dirty in July 07

Cleaned her up

Sold the standard alloys

And for £800, bought.....

Replaced grille with GTi version...

Replaced cubby and installed single din new stereo....

Painted calipers....

Overall look so far....

Grabbed a pic with one of her project brothers....before his dismantling!

Driver Project

Fitted some rain deflectors....

Decided to replace lower grilles with honeycombes....

Someone recently opened van door onto passenger door - luckily the bump strip....

Plans for the future are:

Replace side bump strip

Purchase coilovers

Fit some fog lights

Considering GTi black headlights?

I got the grille direct from VW. The strip is detachable so I prepped and sprayed it myself.

It's not actually on in the 1st photo of the grille - hence the little gaps all around. So it can only really be seen in the 2nd to last pic.

I preffered the GTi grille to the standard but didn't want to come across as a GTi wannabe (although I wouldn't say no!) So took the badge off and sprayed the strip....I considered a few different colours ie:blue coded or chrome but black just seemed the most discreet.

Thanks Ste, and yes, you're right - VW doesn't make them....nor do any other company in Europe so it seems!

I got them through a group-buy on another forum and they came from China.

They are top quality though and i'm really chuffed with them. They cost £90 delivered with 10 people on the group buy.

I believe they may have just done a 2nd group buy on them as they've been pretty popular. Here's the company anyway....

VW charge an extra £180 for them.

As far as I know, they only came on the GTi, the Sport and the 'S'

Think the 'E' and the 'SE' must've been designed on a Friday!

.....although the SE is priced higher and appears to have slightly better spec then the 'S' ?!

Which coilovers do you think you'll go with?

I've been thinking about lowering for months now, but the more I look the more concerns I have!

I want to lower about 50mm, and coilovers seem the only sensible route.

I started thinking about coilies some time ago but money just wasn't available so I put it to rest.

People have recommended so many different makes like HandR, KW, Eibach, FK's but they're all pretty pricey. I've also heard that PhilJ's are really reasonable on here though so may be worth a look....let me know what you end up choosing anyway!

My brothers just ordered some v-maxx coilovers for his 9n (my old one!) I think they will be quite hard, but time will tell! I would love a set of eibachs or KW's but funds are getting tighter and tighter lol!

I have to say olympic blue keeps growing and growing on me, can't wait to get mine colour coded and get a full detail done.

Ahh of course! I can't believe I didn't comment on your thread! Liked your idea with the iPod setup. The BBS's look fab too.

Colour coding on yours will look great and make a massive difference! Have you had prices yet? I recently got a quote for a replacement side bump strip for the passenger door that got damaged and VW say £44 for the strip on its own and £103 painted in our pearl effect paint Could work out pricey!

I could probably get the handles preped and primed, and primed mirror covers were £25 each, a bit more reasonable! I don't know how they can charge sooo much for primed bits of plastic! But i want it done right first time. As I know a friend who took his strips off preped, primed and painted his and now they keep unclipping and falling off. It took him days to get them smoothed!!

Will VW paint and refit the strips you have on at the moment? Maybe cheaper option?

They are not replica's no, and I didn't buy them from VW.

At the time when I bought them, they were as rare as rocking horse sh**.

There weren't any around on ebay or spare parts sites etc so I just had to repeatedly hunt the forums until a set came up.

VW quoted £265 per alloy without tyres!!

The tyres - Dunlop SP Sport Maxx (better performance) cost around £90 a corner

Totalling = £1420 gulp!

The set I got were next-to-new with no marks whatsoever and the tyres were barely used so £800 was a great price back then!

I'm sure they're a fair bit cheaper now as they're more available - supply and demand changes as time goes by I guess but I didn't want to wait....I couldn't bear the original one's I had lol :-D

do you reckon you'll stick with these ones or go aftermarket...?! a healthy drop would look wicked....

I'm happy with what i have at the minute, but never say never!

I plan to lower the car in the future, not to excess as its my daily, just enough so i can't fit a large dog in the arch :biggrin:

The only one's venom appear to have for MK7 when I search the model, are FK - starting around £400+
