Right, so yesterday I slammed my 6N down and I've been told my insurance is now void.

Is this true???

I'm with Quinn if it helps.

Help greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Pretty sure you have to declare ANY "changes" made to your car to your insurance company

if its not declared then i think this may be the case...

imo, the best bet is to ring up the insurance company and ask what would happen to your policy if you were to lower it. if its void, declare it i say..

Will this not increase my insurance quote though???

What's everyone else done???

your insurance will go up when you declare it

av declared mine and paid more

BUT some insurance companies have a limit on how low you can go

It will increase your premium as it will make your car more attractive to thiefs (so i was told when declaring my mods)

I dont see how, if its that low they wouldnt be able to get away quick enough

Best to declare it buddy, even it it goes up a bit, at least you'll stay legal and the insurance cant wiggle their way out if you ever need to claim.

Thats just a load of rubbish in my opinion. Your car doesn't go up or down in value if its slammed or not really, the insurance will still pay book price on it if it is stolen so what have you paid the extra for then? And what if you are running just third party insurance?

I had that argument with my insurance over my second car when i was 17, I put alloys on it worth £200, the insurance wanted £500 extra on a Third Party only policy to continue insuring the car :? . So I told then I'll take them off but then just ran them anyway. I'm not saying you shouldn't declare mods but if you are young it usually a rip off if you do.

Agreed

Can you imagine, like 4 police traffic cars behind with sirens blarring, the thieves in the Polo 1st gearing it over a row of speedbumps

wise words there

I've heard that police check forums too, only when they have a reason too like,i dont want to put the shitters up anyone! :D

i declared...

alloys

exhaust

induction kit

lowering it

and it put my premium up £50 a year, not too bad

i am also with quinn direct, i tested out the insurance with wheel alteration and it didnt not change the price however, if you are changing the suspension it will add another £100 !

Lowered my Ibiza and put on a set of rims and Tesco didnt put up my premium at all! Result! It is best to declare ALL mods though, you will wish you paid the premium increase when they dont pay out if your car is crashed/stolen. You also leave yourself open to criminal prosecution for not having insurance if they declare it void after an incident.

Is it worth it not too, everyone says it wont happen to them but an accident is just that. If we were expecting them they wouldnt be accidents!!

i remember when using a comparison site that the options for suspension modifications were something like this:

0-59mm lower

60 or more...

And they wouldn't quote me with 60mm lowered suspension...how gay, considering thats the most popular lowerage... :retard:

^^ Thats unfair too, as different cars will need lowering by different ammounts..

good think kits like 60mm shocks and springs dont actually lower that low lol

The price increase will very much depend on the insurance company - they have to decide how they deal with a policyholder changing their car in some way. Best thing is always to ring them and ask what they would do if you were to lower your car. I'm with Brentacre, and they charge £0 for any 'cosmetic mods' (basically anything which does not increase the BHP of the car).

I declared my coilovers, put my premium up £120, 10% of the original premium price.

I'm with Quinn Direct.

When I insured my loop I told them about coilovers and it upped my premium 50quid, I'm allowed upto a 50mm drop.. :paranoid::smirk:

first of all its not worth just rolling without declaring the mods..... i lowered mine 40/60mm and put alloys on. told my insurance (diamond) and it went up like £20 for each. Not worth having no insurance for that sort of price- i reckon anyhow.

If Quinn are gonna be dificult about it, phone around a few other places, the like of adrian flux are cool with modified cars, lots of other companies are too and they will cover you no problem. At worst, take the coilovers off until you move to another company, when your renewal is due, then tell them and slam it.
