windscreen removal

Featured Replies

need to replace the front windscreen on my mk1 and trying to work out how to remove it without smashing it.

i remember people saying theyve used a string technique but at the risk of sounding sillly what sort of string would i use (fishing wire, cotton thread?) and is it just a case of poking the string through the rubber seal and pulling down on it?

thanks for any help.

dave.

are you replacing the rubber? if so hen cut it out and fit the new one in, if not then try to ease the inner lip over the flange and then using a few people push from the inside with your feet(dont like using hands for obvous reasons) and it shoud come out (but be careful)

the trick with the string is old school, u basically run a line of string around the lip of the seal that meets the body and add some fairy liquid then pop the window in and pull the string out slowly and this puts the outer/inner lip of the rubber on correctly

will

thanks alot will.

tried pushing it before on my own and even though its cracked already i didnt want glass flying everywhere if i pushed to hard.

ta for the info about the string thing, thought you used string to take out, whoops.

if you're replacing the screen anyway then just smash it. A mk1 will still have a laminated screen wont it? So it wont actually come to pieces.
