how do i get the vw badge out of my grill?

to spray?

i haven't tried yet, just wondered if it was to hard for a quick job?

take the grille out need pop the badge out easy as that

yeah take the grill off then squeeze all 3 clips inwards and push then roberts your mothers brother

i already worked it out...

then i fucked up.

i sprayed the badge with metal spray paint, not plastic stuff

and its cracked real bad.

grr, i thought it would be simple and quick!

what do i do now?

I don't even bother taking the grille off. If you give it a firm yark it usually comes out. Clips in tact and everything.

Best way to do the Mk3 one, don't work on a Mk4 though

As for painting on my old Mk3 I used the paint you get for AirFix kits and stuff, worked a treat and never flaked or anything.

worked on my mk4! good old pull

if the paint jobs gone all pete tong, you'll have to sand it back as good as possible and start again, using the right paint.

Either that or get a new badge. Not as though they are expensive!

i managed to get it out, it obviously had never been taken out before.

yeah, i think i could get away with sanding it back and starting again...

it cracked after the first layer

but then i done it again, and it did fil in the cracks..

it looks shit up close but ok from far away :)

so ill leave it like that til i get some proper paint.

or drive with a hole in my grill lol

just sand it back. if the plastic is black i wouldnt even bother to paint it, just wet flat it with p1200 wet or dry paper and buff back up with some t-cut

was shiney but i sanded that off.

It probably cracked because your laid it on to thick. You want to be putting light coats over it and letting it dry in between.

i done what it said on the tin..

hold it ... far away, do it in light coats and let dry inbetween

it cracked after the first layer, then when i done the 2nd coat the paint layed in the cracks and you could still see them really.

put a screwdriver in where one of the clips is and push the clip down and you can tilt it and take it out no need to remove grill

Use a bit of grey plastic primer then paint it.

You need plastic primer on it 1st

Then you can use any paint you wish (well, nearly any)

i just gave mine a quick rub with wet and dry and a couple of coats of some BBQ paint i had lying in the garage, perfect smooth finish and no cracks or anything, been done months now. BBQ paint is sweet, it dries smooth and satin black and its well resitant to chips, i painted my wheels with it too xD

ill bear the bbq stuff in mind!
