195/45/14 - Which ones?

Featured Replies

Hi All

Think I finally decided on 195/45/14 to go on a set of 14'' BBS RAs.

Down to two tyres choices...Yoko or Uniroyal?

I have always been a fan of Yoko but I have read so many good things about the Uniroyal. There is a difference of about £40 in favour of the Uniroyals on Mytyres. I like the raised rim feature on them also. Yoko's have the tried and tested reputation however.

My question to you all is can you share any experiences? Pics would be nice as I know tyres look different on the actual alloy.

I have tried search but no joy. I have seen the RAs on sale recently with the Toyos on them. Looked nice hence my decision to go with 195/45. Any othe recommendations will be looked into.

Many thanks

Bolly.

I've used the Uniroyal rainsports on my G40 for quite a while and I think there pretty good. Never tried the Yokos though.

i presume you mean yoko a539's?? they are an amazing tyre but wear rapidly, really soft compound..

uniroyal's are a harder compound and wear slower, are absolutely amazing in the wet, probably better than in the dry  but an all round awesome tyre...

i am slightly biased though, i do have the uniroyals on my mk2 golf, but a mate has the yoko's, out of the two i chose the uniroyal because of the wear, I'm a student so cant afford to keep buying tyres :D

uniroyals ftmfw!!!

Not considering Toyo's at all?

I hear that its a soft compound and therefore wear is not too great! That is why they are not on my list this time.

Uniroyals look to be winning. This is the one I am considering: Mytyres.co.uk

Is this the same one that everyone is talking about?

Does anybody have any pics of these on an alloy?

Bolly

i run uniroyals and i like them, no complaints really

I've run both Unis and Toyos, the Unis are better considerably.

I have uni's on my daily (although not a VW) they seem very good and dont seem to be wearing to quick considering they are rain/wet weather tyres... then again its always raining in the south east lol...

Have you any wheel pics?

Looks like Uniroyals for me.....

One thing to mention is that they dont stretch much, ie they stay convex-shape rather than going concave like Toyos etc, which imo looks better.

uniroyals ftw! look pretty good n grip very well! n wear well too!

I had the 195/45R14 RA's with Toyo's and got on really well with them. Great in the try and wet. I'd prob. try 185/50 A539's if you can get them though, 195's were fine and looked great buy given how good the A539 is and the 185 section would prob. suit a Polo a bit better.

195-45-r14 uniroyals

I'd suggest 185/50/14 Yoko A539's mate, would suit a 6j rim better and from personal experiance they are a really good tyre, so much grip in the dry, a bit poor in the wet if they are cold but not like scary bad or anything. I've done 20K on my yoko's now and still got about 4mm of tread left on them so they dont go down too quckly.

You'll find them on Camskill.com at about £55 a corner or something like that so not badly priced either.
