Being Low..

Featured Replies

i dout the roads are that much smoother tbh you always see them on highways, which like our motorways are relativly smooth, and ofcourse they have speedbumps! there only lower as they ride on air/hydros

Yeah well I guess there will be speed bumps there. I've been to Oregon and Florida and the roads were flawless and hardly any traffic calming measures. True about the hydraulic suspension though.

Scared the shit out of myself last night..

I was driving down a dark road at about 50mph (a road I know well as I travel down it maybe once a week). I start to slow down as I know round the corner there are speed bumps, so I'm now doing about 40mph not on the throlttle or anything. Then, I notice theres a new speedbump about 2car lengths infront of me but not marked and all black!!

Thank god for ABS!! Managed to hit it at about 25 but in the middle of them both as the gap was pretty big, so there was no scrape at all. Just hope no1 saw me look like a bellend swerving and abs'ing for a speedbump

I shit myself though.. If I'd have smashed my sump would the council have been liable?

My 6th sense failed me.. :(

not knowing you can hear them or see them lol

i just take it as a compliment as they are takin notice in your car and stuf :-D

Naa, i was crawling over one of those little hills in the road in the town centre, and a car of of like 4 indian lads were going over the one next to me, other direction..

"Car's too fuckin' low"

Hope you replied along the lines of "yes thanks and yours is shite"

I picked up a low (60mm?) Polo the other night that I needed the engine out of. Went on the transporter fine with the bed tilted. When I got to the unit I forgot/wasn't arsed to tilt the trailer bed and backed off. Dear lord that made some naty noises. :o

I'd say epic fail! You must admit it gets tiresome scuffing and scraping everywhere at 5mph?!!

can we see pics of how low you are?? I dont get it when people moan about being low when their is alot of people on here twice as low as them and can handle it, if you learn roads you can and cant go down then you know what to avoid or how to obstacle things

Its not super low at all. People are much lower. Just measured it. My bumper has 7cm clearance and my sumpcover 4cm.

Its mainly when I have passengers or drive fast.

What about you mate?

I'm about a key length from the floor, thats the subframe, cant go any lower as the wheel wont turn out of the arches running 15's, its more likely due to your sump tray, they hang down quite far so you'd probably have abit more ground clearance if that wasn't in the way, my splitter grounds out on cambered roads and I only get problems through villages where they section two small speedbumps either side.

if you aint low your not dubbing! he he

Funniest thing that ever happened was having to go out of a multistory carpark (3 levels) backwards in my blokes car cos of the front splitter!

I panic whenever I see speed humps, worse thing is when you can get into a car park because there aren't any sleeping policeman, then you get to the exit and somebodies put a mountain AND kerbs each side!

I've also got stuck in Sparsholt college once, had to go to the reception and ask if they had an planks of wood about tee hee

Yea I was thinking about taking it off or something. Like I say its genrally only annoying when I'm with the missus (even though she just laughs about it) or if theres a car full and I'm giving it some! I cant actually get over the strip bumps because it will run the sills. I dont know how you can be so low, I wont run it much lower then I am at the moment. Well not with my current wheel/tyre setup.

I tried to go down a street the other day and got stuck on the road camber. People behind didn't seem to understand how I had got stuck in a road with no obstacles  Suppose thats whats gonna happen when you have 1 cm of ground clearance on a 12 foot car

cracked 2 (alloy) sumps in two weeks and seat has an 8 month wait for new ones to hit the uk.

walking to work now, thats embarrasing!

going down the motorway in the mk1 caddy with some poke out back carrind a engine with a flipped axel i had some serious scrubbing issues coming back from edition.

could see all the smoke coming out the back when eva i wnt over a bump.haahaa

and 5 poeple in my mk2 is constant wheel on arch even standing still.lol

I find myself gurning when driving my car i swear to god, i feel like i've been on a night out just going down the shop to pick up some milk..

Grabbing the steering wheel so tightly my fingers go numb every time a slight camber occurs on the road... I'm going to have white hair by the time i hit 25.

my od one used to caatch on eerythin, was even lowr cos hats it on 60 profiles, dropped it to 175/50's to avoid arch on tyre action. was 110mm on the back :)

the funnest thing is when youcatch like a coke/beer can and it impales to your exhaust clamp spraying sparks everywhere until it melts/disintegrates/falls off

I Destroyed a sump the other day :) hit the flor at about 40...sump pretty much folded over its self!

stopped the car knew i had done damage oil light came on...ring the AA

will have to get pics up...was pretty impressive!!

^^ hope you reported the oil!
