Ok so i have got some new wheels for my MKII bready, and my Dad and i are wandering the limits / rules for having wide wheels, eg. how far out can my wheels sit outside the arches to be legal.

just hoping i dont have to spend too much for sorting this problem out, i mean, i could flare the arches, but that is only going to be a last resort.

aslong as the tread is in the arch ure fine i think, hence streching tyres

you could smack in the lips front and rear whichd give you more clearane. but will deffinatelly crack the paint

after that all you can do is flare the arches really

Thanks for that bro, my tread is in my arches, might be out a bit, but it is standing wide atm, i'll see what its lke when i fit my springs etc.

I ran 14*8 et15 up front and 14*9 et10 up back lowered 80/60 on my bready had to flair the rear archs. The wheel stuck out a lot but the tyre tread was in the archs, iv also heard that the wheel is only aloud to stick out of the archs by 30mm.

bloody hell i didnt think i could get tht size wheels on my bready without modding, are you sure you only had 2 flair the rears?

Thing is if you run 8's there are tyre options for proper stretch, i had 13x7's and there wasnt any good sizes really..

how do i go about flairing my arches because they are like square, how do you do it?

any help really appreciate...

I think it'll be harder on a squareback, bodyshop job id have thought.

I used a arch roller to pull them out. the paint will crack so it will need bodywork done to it after words.

14*9 and a falken 195/45 tyre i would rather a 40 profile though.

There's no plastic under the rear archs so the back was not a problem. The front i took the inner plastic out and the clips were you screw the plastic to the clips are not on the lip of the arch so it was not a problem when i rolled it, but there is one at the top of the arch that does sit on the lip i just rolled it flat so it was fine.

My local tyre shop has a beed cheater so thay used that. if you carnt find a tyre shop with a beed cheater then you should try the aerosol can and lighter method, thers videos of people doing it on you tube.

My uncle owns a tyre shop so he's doing them, the 8's were piss easy but the the 9s are.. not so much..

he's getting his mate to have a go, he fits lorry tyres so has proper equipment.

whats a bead cheater exactly? i think he mentioned a 'bead blaster' on the phone..?

my 9s went on first time with out a problem. Bead cheater/Bead Blaster I'm guessing its the samething . Its a big cylinder that releases a large some of air at one time at a high psi.

The rear arch on a square is always going to be a problem for widening. Those photochops of your car look amazing the problem is the non flexible nature of that rear arch and even that bit of plastic arch protection on the arch.

Here are three examples of cars that work in my opinion:-

The first one has a fully rolled out lip, The second has completely different arches welded on and the last one has been persuaded out with a hammer and dolly(I think) by about an inch to get the classics under there. All three need skill/experience which might involve time and patience for us enthusiast's.

This is what I have done to my arches so far, no widening but just those plastic covers removed(they were a mess anyway):-

Basically what I'm saying is whoever is going to mess with the rear arches on a square needs to be pretty skilled.

I get anxious when someone says "nice square, get some weller's on there" because I reckon it's easy to jam a scaffolding poll in there or some other pickey mod and make it look shit.

I might get some 7J wheels and do what that guy did with those classics but thats as far as it goes. After all it would be easier just to get a coupe with the round arches which are easier to roll..

This is just my opinion mind. Just to add I reckon streetsleeper85's car is potentially looking great, I know there's been a lot of figuring out involved.

my wheels are extremely wide, and me being quite a noob at this whole tire thing cant give you any details about them just i know they sit a little out of the arch, i will see what my local garage says about doing it, thanks for the examples all together tho buddy, that second one, with new circular arches looks amazing.
