My heater/blower has developed a very annoying squeak today. going to have a look to see if i can fix it later.

has any one had this problem before?

mine does it from time to time...i whack the fan on and spray a mist of spray oil/grease toward the motor bearing , seems to shut it up for a while

I used to have this on my old mk3... I always thought a leaf was stuck somewhere

the vents can also sqeak/make random noises lol

the motor bearings noise will change with the fan speed setting though and often gets worse on corners (due to the uber mk2 g forces)

common fault iirc with the heaters. Usually end up packing up completely.

If you ever have the entire matrix/heater out or replacing it before refitting get some spray grease sprayed into the fans axle. You need spray grease(I'm sure wd40 would do it) with a long nozzle that can you can poke through the fins and get into the moving part on the axle that squeaks. Mine has been fine for over a year since...

There might be a way of getting it in there when on the car your kind of spraying blind though.

lol mines sorted now just give the heater bit under the bonnet a tap in rage and it went will probably come back tho

It's quite a palaver getting the heater box out to begin with.

I found I didn't need to drain the coolant system like Haynes suggests. Just clamped the pipes to the heater matrix and drain of the coolant into a small jam jar, by releasing bottom matrix pipe jubilee clip first.

Note: Antifreeze is extremely toxic and sweet tasting to cats - 1/4 teaspoon is fatal, and the cat appears to recover from lethargy then dies nastily 24 hours later. So place some cardboard/newspaper under the car, to catch any spills. Antifreeze is not too good for paintwork either.

Then a whole load of twisting to pull it out towards the fuse box side. I really can't work out how they assembled the car efficiently in Wolfsburg...

As for the heater box with the motor I snapped the lugs that hold the two halves together when I tried. Probably too old and cold. I suggest warm it up indoors first.

so how the actual motor fixed to the box?

av removed the whole heater assy...tbh, its not that difficult, can get it in and out in 1/2 hour

take the ECU out (the whole bracket)

move on to the heater assembly, 2 clips on the top of it, un-clip these and the whole thing will come loose, unclip the cable on the side that goes to the dials inside.

for the water/coolant

its rite at the top of the coolant system, i took the pipes off an it only drained from the matrix and there wernt much there!

failing that, if your unsure, just crimp the pipes, just be carefull...there old

soon as the pipes are disconnected and the heater assy is loose...you just have to navigate it out!

the matrix comes out with 2 or 4 screws, i cant remember, pretty sure ul just be able to take the motor out, i rushed mine to get it back in, other wise i would have lubricated the motor better
