is it illegal to have the front reg in the window of my car instead of on the front, people have been telling me it is because its not on the front of the car. however it is forward facing and at the top on the drivers side so is still clear, i have driven past loads of po-po and not been pulled. also super cars and motorbikes get away with it and i no lots of peeps on here rock it like me????????????

But it must be mounted as Vertical as possible. And as far as I am aware all cars must have front number plates. Only bikes registered after 2001 and some work machinery don't need front number plates.

I think you do have to make sure it is it visible from the front so that people/cameras can read it. But even though it may be legal you are still likely to get stopped more/every now and then as it makes you stand out and the police may have the opinion that its illegal. And you might be then required to prove its not in court... possibly :)

One of my mates is doing this as he has had his front number plate recess smoothed.

He's not been pulled over yet, but I'm sure with the police around are area, and there bad tempers, they will have something to say at some point.

For an MOT they have to be the most foward part of the car, whether that means they have to be like that on the road i'm unsure about.

am sure i was told it had to be infront of the front wheels ... cant garuntee it though

I have mine on my dash in the front window sill wedged up, got pulled over the copper was like are you going to put that back on the front. I was like yer he was like nice one cheers. Then i went on my way. I herd that it was illegal to have your number plate inside, supposed to have it on the outside of your vehicle. but what the hell been pulled once in 2 months is fek all

I ran mine for about a month when it fell off the bumper and never got a mention, i think its a grey area though, like JakeBlood said, it only takes 1 cop to say its illegal..

A lad on CL got a 30pound fine for this and he wasn't even with his car at the time. It was parked up!!

Well, say if you're at a meet on a carpark somewhere and swap / remove your plates for photo purposes..

i got pulled and a £30 fine for not running one at all, then put it in the little vent on the bumper, got pulled again last week and another £30 fine for it being at the wrong angle!!!! aparently a camera wont see it if its not vertical!!!???

i got about 4 fines in total for no front plate atall, gave up after than and ran one!

yeah its not worth it really. specially if you can just cable tie it somewhere........ then just whip it off again for shows an that.

i got pulled when i had mine in my window, and given a £30 fine, said it was not as reflective when it is behind glass!!!

i ran mine in the windscreen for ages in my polo and never had a problem with it, but as said it only takes one arsy copper.

i've not been running one on my scirocco cause i keep forgetting to refit it, but its a German plate so i'd probably get in more shit if i had it fitted

i got 30 quid fine so i put it in window not been bothered since got pulled over by fuz and traffic cop said it was fine as long as u can read it and u can :) but i think it just depends on what police man and what day

+1 there, I've been wanting one for years for my olo-pay...

then again, living in the city, so many people have totally fucked up my plate, backing into my car with their trailor hitch so... its probably a good thing:p

Pretty much gives cops the ground to fine you..

'as close the the vertical as is reasobly possible' meaning there is no real reason for having the plate in the window when the bumper is useable.

Also means they could say they cant read the plate properly due to windscreen glare..

but what if you have a smoothed bumper and my argument again would be supercars saw a lambo and a porker yestaday without front regs at all. also rolled past a copper real slow and e didnt look 2wice

how about a local sticker/sign maker? just do a internet search for a local sign writer or check out the adds in the local paper then pop in and have a chat with them and see what they say. can't see why they wouldn't be able to do it for you.

i have ran my plate in my window since march and never been pulled for it, even had a cop tell me the bumpers smoohed look sweet ahaha lmao so i guess it cannt be illegal????

I'll be doing the same when i get mine done, it just depends on the copper really, £30 doesnt bother me much..
