I've sold my polo and now have 1200 to spend on another car, but I can't make up my mind!

I've been thinking about-

Mk1 Golf

Mk2 Golf

Mk3 Polo

Mk5 Polo

Mk4 Passat Estate

Mk4 Bora

Audi A3 [older one]

Audi A4

Old style BMW [don't know a lot about BMW's though]

orrr going jap with a Honda Civic.

A few are out of my price range now, but nothing I couldn't save for. The thing is I could see my self owning all of the cars listed and I can't make up my mind what to get!

Any thoughts?

Out of those I'd say an old 3 series, like an E30.

Wouldn't bother with an A3 for that money, it'd be a shed.

Got a years NCB coming up in Feb. I'm used to paying 250 a month for my polo because I declared everything on it, so I'm used to paying a lot. Only got quotes on the Audi's which are 3 grand plus. I should imagine the other cars will be the same or less what I'm paying now, I'm only looking at the smaller engines in all cars.

From my point of view I would go for any of the first three purely because I have knowledge of what's involved in looking after them. This club along with others is a great resource for knowing how to fix things yourself. I never knew a thing about mechanics 3 years back. Now i can change the headgasket on my mk2 polo.

I wouldn't like to turn my back on this club even if I had a golf and wouldn't want to start from the beginning with a new make/generation of car where I have to source parts that might cost a fortune.

Always liked the idea of owning a mk2 golf driver. Different wheels and lowerage and they look great. I like the simplicity of early water cooled, no electric windows and other electronics to go wrong...

£1200 is a fortune to me but then again I'm a student nurse.

1200 is a lot to me as well, I'm just out of school! Mk2 Golf is a car I've wanted since I was into dubs but I've been leaning away and away from it the more I think about getting one.

@ polo_phil - Its a high price to pay owning a modified car so young and legally!

buy a standard mk3 polo for about 400 quid. drive it for a year. bin it.

you would save about 2.5k on insurance + whatever else you can save.

then you could buy something thats not a shed.

or do what i did and buy a mk2 golf driver :p

thats a similar list i had in my mind when i sold my old GT

went with an e36 3 series, not too bad on insurance and is so smooth refined and well balanced compared to crashing about in old skool cars with eeny weeny wheels decked to the max lol

although that said i wouldnt say no to a minty mk2 gti 16v

Don't like pugs, don't like that Audi with the horseshoe and g60 would be a nightmare to insure.

@Doug- Everyone I know to have owned a e36 3 series have not rated it well... and the smaller engines [which I would be going for] don't pull the car well do they? E30's have more style as well

My dad has owned E30s and E36s If your not going to have alot of money spare to spend on it, don't get one because they cost alot ( in my dads experiences to put right)

Id recommend a mark2 golf 1.6 driver, or a polo gt something similar.
