basically it rapidly went right upto 110c so i stopped. and panicked. then carried on when it got back down. but this morning i was cruising in 5th doing 40mph all the way to work but the problem (obviously) stayed. thermostat?

yes sounds like a stuck thermostat.

without a doubt it will be the stat, remove it for a temp fix, but dont run like it too long as running super cold is almost as bad as running too hot

its common for a bit of the plastic housing to break on mk4s, which results in the stat jamming up

if i have the heater on full blast and the headunit off it stays at 90c. and i could drive normally, any ideas?
