It was in the FAQ, as it is frequently asked.

this guy, carver went for the Mk3 GT fuel injection which means you'll have to do all of this aswell.

biggest issue is the inlet manifold needs to be fabricated, either for bike carbs or the GT mpi setup like in carvers thread.

Bikecarbs would be the easiest conversion because you won't have to change any wiring, also it will sound awesome and drive differently

Hey guys thanks for the info,

So the intake manifold is diferant I take it? Or are they the same mounts but bigger ports?

have a look at that first link, it's right there ;)

I Think you should just ABD 1.4 GT it, with GT injection set-up, circa 100bhp, would be nice and OEM+ style too.

I last reported in there that i went down to 1.4,and it was a good move. It was, whilst on 13s.

I'm now back up to 1.6 and with bigger wheels/tyres it gets traction down better and is quicker - but at sociable speeds,it was probably more fun with the 1.4 on standard 13s. Was a bit more demanding, and useable.

Speed certainly isnt everything.

Its currently in bits again, but I'm not finished with the 1.6 lump just yet..

you cant leave a comment like than and not let anyone know what you are doing, drives me mad that one of the fastest N/A mk2s has no documentation at all.

you are a tease mikey.

Thanks guys

I just think for the 1.6 is probably the best bet. As the 1.3 motor in there is running pretty strong. So I think if I went 1.4 I would be disapointed.

Thanks rich, however the 1.3 thats in there is running reeally strong at present so really the only way to better that is with either a g40 or 1.6 . Being someone who likes to be differant the 1.6 appeals more. I have just got a set of really trick wheels that I am refurbing from state side. hehe When I took her to the ring in the middle of the year I was getting up 115mph on the autobahns. It was of the clock, my buddy in a GTi told me on his clock we were doing 115. So yeah for a 1.3 I am really happy with it.

I went for the 1.6 because its something different, and i was sick of creeping the power up slowly so it was a bigger jump for me then a 1.4 GT.

Couldn't afford what a G40 deserves so its the next best thing, its quick for what it is and costs about the same as a 1.4 GT conversion.

As you can see from my thread the inlet is a problem, a bigger problem is getting someone to machine it - most places will not be up for it for the time it takes.

You might want to look into it before you start the project, you will need to cut and shut an ABU inlet face with a GT inlet. Both need to be machined and ali welded for it to work properly.

I agree the 1.4 does have appealing qualities around town, you do have to be abit more careful with the 1.6 as you soon see 60mph with light throttle. But on national speed limit roads where you have to slow down to 30 then up to 70 you carn't match it in anything other then a G40 or maybe a 1.4 16v setup. I have been meaning to get some videos done for ages now..

Id guess mines at around 8 sec should be quicker with a few tweaks and weight removal and a gearbox with shorter ratios..

What does yours weigh Ash? My golf doesn't have trouble getting 8 seconds - 60 and it's 840 kg with a tall, fat bastard behind the wheel.

I am planning some serrious work on the 1.6 before it goes in. The only concern I have is the rear engine mount on gerbox.

Howere worst come to worst I will have a new one fabricated. It will be worked I already have something seriously tasty for the intake.

Not sure, mk3 polo with about 30 - 40 kg of tools in the boot (no break down cover atm :-( ) and I'm about 15 stone.

You happy with the 1.6?

Happy with the torque for sure! Not as revvy as the small(er) blocks were, but pending on headwork/camshaft should sort that!

We're around the same weight stakes i guess then

I'm pretty sure my 1.6 revs quicker then my old GT did :? maybe I'm abit lighter overall?

Going to try and get a 4 branch and decent backbox before the rolling road day, possibly a 268 cam. Definetly the GT cam as its sitting in my draw.

I'm thinking about selling soon though for a mk2 golf gti, but for pure fun and cost the 1.6 polo wins everytime. I'm pretty sure it will be quicker then a gti 8v when I'm done

Maybe my jetting was ok then, and off now - or i'm just imagining it  Or maybe it's because the power is lower in the revs now and i just change for the torque :S

yeah your power band is going to be completely different to mine, its hard to say because I'm still using the polo afm so its pretty restricted at high revs, that will be sorted next week though.

I didnt used to be a tease about it Pete, but many people didnt like that. So just for you, here's my view on the difference.

Where do i start? Well it had a higher top speed with the 1.4,due to that engine's ability to keep pulling at higher revs,so its not as simple as a bhp figure.

But that's instant-ban level on a public road anyway,so its no relevant compromise for me (though the 1.6's lower economy at cruising speed certainly is). Course it has its strong points over the 1.4,though.

Its far stronger within its optimum rev range, which whilst lower,is very wide. It'll overtake a lorry in just a couple of seconds, which makes me feel safe, but i find i can stay out and carry on taking more traffic with the feeling that I'm really surprising a few people, helped by it not practicing weaker acceleration after a gear change,if i choose to keep at it. And that's where i start feeling like a prat.

As for comparing to other modified Polo's,that's not black and white either - mine only weighs 775 kgs even when I'm in it. The average G40 with driver probably weighs over 900 kgs - so there are certainly some double figures to take into account, there.

Its safe to only really report on the fitting of the engines in that thread,in line with its title - the results depend on many factors.

Interesting, i've never attempted a top speed in my golf with ABD or AEE because it doesn't really interest me. But i'm sure the AEE would pull all the way to 6000, whereas i'm not 100% sure the ABD would have.
