Speeding.

Featured Replies

Just got flashed doing doing 37 in a 30 in the way into Plymouth last night.

I did'nt even relaise i was a 30 area, it was kinda duel carrage. I'm 18 and been driving for a year. What can i expect?

I'm thinking 3 points and 60 quid fine isnt it?

Ahh, there goes the idea of a gti in the next coming months..

Cheers, Ryan ,.

Yeah pretty much spot on with 3 points and a £60 fine. Thats what i got for doing a 38 in a 30...

harsh luck mate

If the camera had film in it and they get the NIP out to you on time, they have 14 days to tell you they are going to prosecute you, if you dont hear anything in 14 days your clear.

Were you going head on at it? If you were theres a chance it didnt catch you, theres a few in my area that will flash when you go over the limit but you dont get anything.

Huw

expect you insurance premium to go up!

and if you accidently get another 3 points

test retake!

I guess you learn by your mistakes, you might get something through the post maybe not.

There seems to be a lot of cameras out there but no speed limit signs - so whats the speed then??

You shouldn't need signs to know what the speed limit is.

EG if there is a series of street lights you should know its 30MPH unless otherwise stated.

Correct, I should've been more specific...

I was referring to A92 dualer that before going into Dundee does have little signage but lots of camera's or at least one point did have and where the limit is 40, but folk still do well above that.

3 points doesnt effect your premiun much anyway so you can still get the GTi if thats whats your planning.

My 3pts made a difference of £37 on my insurance this year.

Moved to paperwork.

Yeah, if you're unlucky, you'll get 3 points + £60 fine, realistically, Gatso's aren't the most reliable of things for you getting flashed leading to a conviction.

I've got a mate whos had his license revoked, and passed again. but with 6 points and no ncb his insurance [we live in the same postcode] his GT when we both had them was less. i have a clean license and 2ncb, duno how that worked out lol

but yeah, expect 3 points and £60 then if you dont get a letter you will be pleasently surprised :)

theirs a few ways around this , if it flashed you from in front u can send them a cheqe for 61 pounds when the fine is 60 they send you a pound bk as a cheqe u rip that up and the tranaction is never closed then no points , but from behind their are some verry nice skint students hu will say they were driving for aroud 40 quid so they get points u dont , good look on the gti , pm me if u need advice or polo parts

AHh, thanks everyone. Mmmh, It caught me from behind, and it was a new road and it was like an urban duel carrage way. well, 3 lanes including a bus lane, (its hard to explain) so its very wide.

If i had to of guesed i would of assumed it was at least a 50+ mph.

Oh well. I guess ill just have to man up.

I do find it so unfair though that so many of my mates drive like c*nts, and are properly dangerous, but know the area's, so slow down for the speed camera;s, then just speed up again.

i drive like it's my test day all the time, plus mine was an honest mistake.

Yet on paper, I'm the worse driver, cor i could rant for years.

As long as the NIP is issued within 14 days its still legal if it takes longer to get to you and at that speed you could be offered the speed awarness course which would still cost you £60 but you wont get any points !

can you go in to more detail about that please....sounds interesting...

Ignore the letters.

This happend to me in June. I sold a car and two days later it gone done for speeding, I recieved one letter which I ignored and then got another one two weeks later which I also ignored and I have heard nothing since. This also happened to a customer of mine about 6 months ago and my boss about two years ago. Each time the same thing happened, two letters within about two weeks of each other and then nothing.

The letters aren't sent via recorded delivery so there is no way of them proving that you got it, even if they did catch up with you. Think about how many thousands of people get done for speeding every day and how many actually get points or fined.

I really wouldn't worry about it.

Anyone else think the same?

Some cameras flash but don't have a film in. We don't have many cameras round here coz they mysteriously get torched!

An analogue gatso isn't allowed to flash you head on iirc. Can cause you to be blinded and may cause an accident. If it flashed you from behind, the police have to prove it was you that was driving.

I've got a PDF on my pc about getting off tickets. Real interesting read. If you want a copy, send me your email by PM

its an easy mistake to make, think most of us have done it. insurance wont go up too much for first time, and i guess it a case of lesson learnt!

I'd be interested to see if anyone has ever done this and got away without a conviction as a result ? I ask because what usualy happens is that you just get a letter back asking you to sort it out and stop being a plum or you could end up in court for non payment of a fine. I suspect as with a lot of "ways out of it" that the courts hear its nothing more than a rumour that very few have ever used to good effect.
