crackin i have a 16inch set i need to refurb too

are you going for a particular theme with colours?

the dishes on the first pic look pretty beat up!

whats the next step?

looking good mate, lots of work to do yet though,

i saw in another thread you were asking about colours of the centres, i reckon anthracite or a darker silver would look mint, faling that go for black

thats what the lips looked like on the first wheel I'm doing now. turned out ok so far. still a long way to go, but ill update this thread as i go. next step is to go up the grade of wet and dry paper till i get a mirror polish!

Yeah in the first pic they do look pretty beat up.

Keep us posted on this as been interested in how to do this for a while.

Is there any kerbing on your wheels frankie and if there is how do you go around repair this?

not really, there are a few marks, but most of it is just where the water has got under the laquer. but bare in mind, I'm only in the middle of doing my first wheel, I've got the lip smooth, now i can move onto higher grades of paper!

Good start. Just keep looking at mine for inspiration when your fingers are sanded down to the bone :p

update, finished off the first wheel today, went threw all the grit papers up to 1200grit, then used some Autosol metal polish and a soft cloth, then used a blob of autosol with some 1200 grit, then buffed off again with soft cloth..

This is how it turned out....

will do, still got the other three to do, I've just been doing it a couple of hours a day when I've got time, so should be done in a month or so. lol

when you take the centre out was that corroded or is it just the outer, in other words if the centre is fine could you just reseal and leave it.

good stuff dude, my favouritist wheels in the world! Are they 15s or 16s?

yeah i prob just bolt it back together and it would look ok, but they have a few marks, and they are going a diff colour!

Where did you get the 10 spline tool to remove the bolts from?

Where did you get the 10 spline tool to remove the bolts from?

my mate had one

Its just an M8 multispline, if you've taken driveshafts off before then you've got one in your box (or borrowed one).

I would say go over them with something like this. Honestly it will turn a set of shiney wheels like you have into a perfect mirror.

You've done the hard part, seems like a waste to leave the final easy stage out!!

Look at the two at the bottom and the top right one. They haven't been done with a polishing mop. Just up to 1200. Then look at the one on the top left that has been done with a polishing mop. You can notice the btter shine, even from that distance.

take it you use that with a drill?

You can buy drill attachments to addapt polishing mops

polishing kits are the shit,

me and my mate spent ages on his audi tt wheels for his mk3 vr the final spree with a polishin kit made all the difference just be thankful you don't have to polish the whole wheel  thats hardcore

and yeh you attacht them to a drill

Keep this updated mate!

I'm making a start on my 16" RX2s this week, so could do with this being kept updated :p

Anyone know how i remove curbing? - Just sand til it's smooth? - It's nothing major like, just a bit of curb rash from letting my mum use my car! :(

How would you go on about polishing whole wheels?

terribly sorry about the thread highjack and keep up the good work!!
