Well after owning the car for the last 4 months I have set about making a few changes to it to get it looking how I wanted it and IMO how it should have looked out of the factory over here.

Some may have seen a few pics of it dotted around the forum but thought I would get it all grouped together in this thread. Theres a fair few pictures showing the progress but hopefully some will find it useful and interesting as there's not that many Bora's out there!

Also thanks to everyone on here for their help along the way as at several points I would have been stuck without the forum [Y]

Well here goes:

These are the pictures from the ad when I bought it - a standard Bora V5 Highline with 16" Sport wheels, heated cream leather, winter pack, Climatronic, cruise control, auto dimming mirror and auto wipers:

The first few mods began after a few weeks of having it replacing a few bits I didnt like:

Aero wipers:

Colour coded rear badge:

W8 light:

I then sprayed the wooden interior parts and replaced the gearknob as I really didn't like them. TBH it went with the cream better than on other cars with black interiors but it was too Rover 75 for me so this was soon changed:

I also did the essential delock mod and also fitted a comfort indicator kit which has so far been the most useful mod as I do alot of motorway driving.

Then came the MK5 aerial:

A few photos I took after giving the car its first good clean after getting it:

After hunting round in the boot for things in the dark I realised just how poor the boot light is. I bought a 12V camping light from Halfords and wired it in. The boot now lights up brilliantly in the dark [Y].

I also wired in a passenger side alarm LED so that both sides flash when the alarm is set. Why VW didnt do this I dont know but I prefer the look and I think it helps security as can be seen flashing from both sides.

Next I took the car up to Neil (OldNo7) and had remote windows enabled, alarm beep and autolocking. The remote windows always comes in handy when its hot to vent the car before driving off or when you forget to close a window.

After doing a few minor mods I thought it was about time I started with the proper mods [:)]

I managed to get a VW GLI valance off the forum and this soon went on:

Next came some OEM Bora Xenons. TBH I wasnt really after these as wanted to get the rest of the car sorted but I got them for a bargain price so who could say no? [:p] I made up the adaptors and got some VW headlight protectors on them:

After this came the wheels. These are genuine VW Anniversary wheels in light grey 7.5J x 18 from Motormadj. I fitted Falken FK452 tyres to them:

Well as can be seen after the wheels went on it was sooo high it looked terrible. I felt embarresed so it had to be coilovers next. I took the plunge after having a test ride in Goody's car and loving it. I went for Weitec Hicon GT coilovers and highly recommend them. The comfort is far better than I expected and really has transformed the driving experience. Guaranteed to make me smile everytime []

These were taken after they were fitted and was at full height so only lowered around 30mm and it hadnt settled either so still looks relatively high.

I then got a few bits sent to the bodyshop for spray. I had the rear GLI valance sprayed which Id had sat in the garage waiting aswell as the Anni side skirts and an M3 lip spoiler. First on was the valance:

(Yes I know its ditched but daily driving takes its toll!)

I then managed to get some Bora sport clocks cheap and once again went up to Neil to have these fitted. They look awesome at night so really pleased with them:

After this I then got round to getting the Anni skirts on, firstly was the trial fit:

I then went to my local Powerflow dealer and got a backbox fitted to fit the exhaust cut-out in the valance. I heard mixed reviews about them being "chav" but I'm really pleased with them. The fit is brilliant and has a lifetime guarantee as its stainless and that includes the rubber hangers and the sound is great. Its hardly noticeable inside just a little deeper but from outside when giving it some it sounds fantastic very much V6 ish even with the rasp. Any one that has heard it will vouch for it.

I also finally debadged it and put the original aerial back on as I had enough of the MK5 one having no signal. I also "custom made" my own stubby aerial which the signal has been fine so far, no different to OEM.

So heres a few of the latest pics with the Anni skirts on, lowered a little more and the exhaust and lip spoiler on:

Thats effin sweet. Some cool mods done there i like how you painted the front badge black instead of a debadged grille that leaves an ugly notch in the bonnet. Rear badge needs painting now though! I'm looking into a bora for my next car and this as made me want one even more. Was a good move gettin rid of the wood effect too i hate it on newer cars.

the rear badge is now black, its such a nice car to be in, very comfy, leather heated seats :) I'm in it all the time warmin up :) i love the car to bits, alot planned for 09, new light for back arived today, we are going full on GLI spec, shall b mint :)

mate he cant go in lower his "VALANCE" not splitter catches on the speed bumps at uni, and we have to go the long way around for afew as the pic at the top shows, it shall be decked at the shows tho, just tht we run it around a campus uni so cant go any lower

Just to say I reckon the car looks alot lower in real life as it has been wound down another 30mm compared to the pictures above - Ill get some pics (well my photographer Higgo will) once I've given it a clean. When the ARBs get fitted it will be going slightly lower at the rear as its running a little rake but like Dan said at the shows out come the adjusters...

higgo....u no when he changed his clocks? did he have to have the milage set on them?

Yeah the mileage was changed using VAGCOM and then coded to my immobiliser and keys so everything works as it should.

Right basically on MK4s (the Bora variety) the immobiliser is built into the clocks and the ECU so these both have to match otherwise the car goes mad! The old clocks are removed noting the current mileage and the new ones plugged in. The new clocks are then coded to match the immobiliser code. All the keys are then deleted from the memory and recoded to the new clocks and then the mileage set to what it was before. The cars then scanned for faults (came up with over 130 faults after fitting) and these are deleted and scanned again and if all is good then jobs a good 'en :-)

Took my mate about 30 mins in all who has all the correct software to do it.

i have a new set of clocks which have a 100,000 on them.....but obviously would need the milage setting and its proving a bastard to find anywhere (localish) that would do it

No worries mate TBH I'm not too sure on the platform which the 6n runs as on mine I have an OBDII Diagnostic port which you can plug the car into a laptop and change a most things.

On your Polo will putting in the other other set of clocks just work or will they need to be coded in like mine?

By the way Dan's told me alot about your car looks sweet from what I've seen - also heard I've got competition for the nicest sounding car eh? Only Higgo's ears can decide that one, V5 ftw.

well, I've put them in b4 and saw they red 100,000 so i tuck them back out.... but i left them in for 10 minits or so.....turning ignition on and off evry now and then to make sure they are all working fine and they are....so yeah just plug them in and they work.....just need to set milage.....dont supose it could be done on that computer you are mate has could it?

and yeah, my car sounds pretty good lol. rasps quite nicely 2....that with a bmc.....on 4 a winer there lol will prob see urs at 1 of the shows if u come 2 any?

Lol I think hes coming round to the idea! I really want one once the Bora's finished although Ill probs be swapping for a 1.8t Bora before I get a MK2. I can ask my mate about the clocks for you and see if he can do it. Hes up in Stoke so not all that close but hes done a few bits for me on my car and knows what hes doing. Ill get back to you about it.

Hopefully gonna take a drive down on the Sunday 14th to Higgo's to have a butchers.

Dan - just realised if I come Ill be able wind it right down as there will be no more uni speed bumps for a month :-D

One thread and a few are after a Bora already!

The V5 came in two versions a 150bhp and a 170bhp - the 150 is a 10v with HT leads and the 170 a 20v and has coil packs (often known to fail).

I've got the 150bhp but I've got a couple of mates with 1.8t's running 250bhp + and really want some good power so planning on getting a 1.8t Bora early next year.

Its not too bad on fuel I get anything from around 27mpg driving it hard to 36mpg on the motorway driving nicely. Thats on 18's but got a record 41mpg when it was on 16's and was doing a good motorway trip at 60mph.

Most say get a 1.8t if you want to mod it for power or a V6 if you can afford to run it - extra £15-£20 to fill it (they have a bigger tank) and get about 300 miles to a tank. I get anything from 330 - 400 normally.

Personally I got the V5 as i loved the sound (ask Higgo!) and it was far cheaper than a TDI, 1.8t or a V6 but like I said when I can afford the swap Ill be getting a 1.8t - only for modding purposes not that I dont like the V5.

Whatever you go for I dont think you will be dissapointed just dont get the 2.0, 1.6, 90 and 100bhp TDI's as IMO their not powerful enough for the Bora.

I'm not too fussed about the fuel econamy as my previous car was a golf vr6 and i used to drive it hard so i used to average 23mpg and that was £60 a week habbit

i been out in a mk4 golf 1.8t that was remapped to 225bhp

and thats what made me want a 1.8t

but iv found when I'm searching the boras are alot cheaper than the golfs and i like the look of em and iv seen a black one with the golf front end that made me want one even more

i will have to check the clocks 2morow mate and i will let u know. cheers 4 askin him :-) stokes closer than london lol thats the only place i have found :-S lol
