I've started building some door pods for my Mk.2 and in true style i have neglected to think the thing through! I started building with 5" comps in mind as i figured they would just about fit in the recess and now i'm beginning to think that the grills are going to overlap the pods, which will just look tacky, soooo i'm considering getting some 4" coaxs' as comps seem to be difficult to find under £200 and build some x-overs for a pair of tweeters, to be mounted in the door card close to the dash vents.. Any comments, suggestions or personal experiences welcome. Thanks peeps

Well decent comps can be had for as little as £60, but if it's gonna be a ball ache to fit, 4" coax's will do..

Alright, cheers. I might be able to rework it for some 5"s... I just want to have plenty of sound up front and attempt to raise the soundstage with the tweeters, but, with coaxs' and tweeters i'm worried the system will sound too 'tinny'. Wotcha reckon?

Decent components or even coax's should be able to balance out treble and bass really..

Oh and they're usually 5.25" so be sure to make the holes big enough

Alright, cheers mate, i'm gonna have to go for the 4", there's no way 13cm's are gonna squeeze.

4" speakers will be gutless as far as bass responce goes. 5 1/4 are a bare min for reasonable mid bass.

I dont understand why you are having so much trouble getting bigger speakers to fit? I used to run 6x9 coaxs in my doors and had no probs finding space for them, could even still use the window winders.

in fact over xmas i plan to do some door builds for my mk2. planning on fitting some 6x4 pioneer components for rears and a set of 5 1/4" mb quart components up front and probably a sub in the boot, although if your after SQ i'd be wary about using a sub. (I'm going for a reasonable sounding budget setup)
