Car Insurance Claim

Featured Replies

Hey all almost two months ago now (6/7 weeks) I was at knowsley safari park in my car, was in the monkey enclosure and well the monkeys got a bit carried away on the bonnet/windscreen, obviously at the time it was really funny and I was literally crawling along (5mph tops) in first gear, anyways I didn't see the car in front of me stop and I didn't brake in time so ended up in the back of the it, you could clearly feel the bump but both cars drove out fine.

Anyways we pulled up at the exit and the front of my car (91 mk3) had its plastic grill cracked and the light pushed in an inch or two, the impact didn't crack or break the glass. The car in front literally looked untouched, both myself and the other driver had a look and there was an inch and a half long scratch, very fine, on the bottom of the bumper. However there was also a rather large dent on the cars boot which I didn't cause, the other driver said it was there already and was too high for my car to do. Anyways we exchanged details and the guy told me it was his brothers car, he just using it for the day and that he doubted his brother would make a claim.

Anyways I've now had a letter from a solicitors looking to claim for the damage, only thing is that it literally was about 6/7 weeks ago, the claimants name on the letter isn't the driver at the times name and the license plate of the car in the letter isn't the same as the one I hit, there both very similar so I suppose it could be a typo but it just seems a tad strange. The letter mentioned an engineer was currently evaluating the damage and a report would be sent to me, I'm not overly bothered as I went into the back of the car but on the same note I don't want to be screwed over for the guys boot because they reckon I'm just an easy naive target what with me being 18. I took pictures of all the damage, well an inch long scratch, I've also just checked out the insurance on the car which I hit and it turns out the car isn't insured, sounds a bit strange?

Also does anyone know the technicalities regarding the fact that the bump was on a road in a zoo? Lol :)

You will need to report the accident to your insurer, being on a road in the zoo makes no difference as to how the claim is handled.

You will need to send in the solictors letter you have received and you can point out any discrepencies in the name and reg for the insurer to look into, and as long as you have told the insurance company exactly what you have put in the above message then they will investigate any claim they receive. ie if it is for thousands they will want to know why. Ultimately it is the insurance companys decision what they pay out.

Even if the third party turns out not to be insured unfortunately they can still claim from you.

Hope this helps you with your claim.

Thanks

Dan

threaten to report the guy for driving without insurance, you've clearly got proof, as they have admitted being there. I'm sure they will soon forget about the little scratch in their bumper then

Send the letter straight to your insurers and let them deal with it. Most of them letters are just hype anyway! If the details are wrong, surerly there's no claim to answer?

I got out an accident I had years ago as the driver I hit had just been released from hospital after having heart bypass operation. My insurers found out he shouldn't have been behind the wheel whilst on his medication.

private property - tell them to fuk off

oh your insurer wont hellp you - this is a civil matter as it was on private property. simply deny it
