hi all not a happy bunny this morn dvla sent me a letter saying

dear sir/madam a payment of an £80.00 penalty was recently requested from you for failing to relicense the above vehicle.

This has not been received.

FAILRE TO PAY COULD RESULT IN ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS

~CLAMPED

~CRUSHED

~COUNTY COURT

~DEBT RECOVERY AGENCY

To avoid the above action you must pay now.

WTF DVLA i bought the car for a ton it ain't worth 80 notes, it is as a project coz it immaculate but to them it ain't, plus this is the first letter i have ever had over the car apart from receiving log book,

ok so i learn this morn that if you buy a car that's sorn as soon as the name changes on the computer the sorn is void as i said WTF!

i tried to phone ended up gettin real nasty with a call center chum told him the car is going in my 18 month old sons name lets see doovla take a child to court lol, to be honest i 'm not sure what to do but i know this i aint payin 80 more pounds for a car that aint moved since i bought it, i don't even have a licence ffs i dont drive its on my back garden off the road, its like a nettopolo i want to do it on a budget, and 80 goes over what i want to pay to keep it off the road, should i say i cant read i can pull off being thick.

it has to be taxed or delcared sorn or you get fined.

i dont quite follow either, but I'm pritty sure sorn's dont reset when you sell a car on, what was the date of the sorn? its prob a previous owner issue.

therefore the car does no longer have a sorn .

meaning hes fucked - he has to pay the 80 quidd to save his car from being crushed /clamped/drybummed/ etc/etc/etc/anything from the list he put up.

so listen up - when you buy a vehicle that has no tax, send a sorn form off at the same time or you wil get dry bummed by the dvla swansea

exactly what he said. the dvla basically think that because you havnt sorn it in your name that its back on the road and the fine is because its not taxed

if its sorned tho then all should be ok? unless the sorn happened to run out around the time of you buying?

i dont know but it does seem a bit strange...

I've bought sorned cars before and never had this problem...

I send the logbook in, wait for it to come back, then SORN.

Assume it was actually kept off the road?

Have you tried going onto the DVLA website and making it SORN in your name now?

Look,you're not paying to keep the car off the road,you're paying because you've aquired a vehicle and not told them what you're doing with it. So its in liability,as its now registered to another address,thus has been moved from the address it was SORN to. Go figure.

Id suggest going on http://DVLA.gov.uk and declaring it SORN. Then wait for an update. Who knows,you might get lucky - they just wanna know what's going on.

i know i was sort of in the wrong but it says its the second letter but it ain't, i will go try get it sorn asap.

And as for my spelling and grammar :-D I'm THICK and was in a bit of a rage at the time.

I just don't want to have it taken, i haven't scratched the surface of what i want it to look like

i hadnt realised that the sorn isnt transferred like.... if you sorn it now, and explain the car is off the road (especially if it is in a state that you couldnt drive it even if you wanted to) they might let you off.

Otherwise its another lesson learnt, which is bad crack
