I'd love to do something like that but I'd have to take my mate incase we broke down.

Not sure if I'd want to drive into Iran either. All that areas abit dubious!

Me and Dublass were considerng doing this last year, we've missed out on the slot for next years rally, however giorgio is doing it.

There is also an unofficial rally that runs at the same time, PM Varnish for any details, really friendly and helpful chap who will fill you in on all you need to know

There's loads of costs that have gotta be considered: fuel, food, accomodation, spareparts, the car itself, channel crossing fee plus any other spending money so I'd guess it would be £1000 at the very least

which is why you cant import one that's less than ten years old . And you aint getting out the country for shit unless the car you entered in is sorted [which is why there is also a £500 deposit to be paid]

yes the Mong Rally is a great laugh but I am aiming for £5,000 minimum sponsorship for the Christina Nobel Foundation. Nobody is going to donate money to charity on the off chance you go to mongolia.

Going unofficially is very boring. As there is nothing specifically to go for your deadlines [and thus the fun] are not really there.

You don't HAVE to be anywhere at a certain time [Eg Cezchout Party] so its just an epicly pointless drive.

The adventurists square things with the Mongolians and you really cant put a price on that.

As for the convoys etc they are also part of the fun. Google for a place called Taxistan. A group of lads last year got severley buggered [not literally] and as a result were stuck in no-man's land between Kazakhstan and Russia. the set up their own country and I have met 4 of the 10 passport holders of the said nation. Not internationally recognised by anybody but that's really not the point.

Moral of the post - 10,000 miles is pretty dam boring without you fellow adventurists

Makes me want to do it even more!! A club POLO rallye convoy would be great plan a route we all stick together help each other out etc!!

It's not easy to get a place...It's a 8-10k mile drive to mongolia in a 1litre car driving through some rather intimidating places, what sort of retard isn't going to have an idea what he's getting himself into?

I did the Mongol Rally in 2007 and unofficial one in 2008.

I agree with what is said above. The unoffical rally was not as much fun as the mongol rally. Simple as that.

I would say though; Don't bother to pay anything!

Just go at the same time as the mongol rally in a car of your choice. I saw plenty of cars and bikes coming into Mongolia driven by dutch, german, sweedish etc that were on NO rally what so ever. So its not like you can't get into the country if you're not on the rally.

Do the round trip. I did this last year and its great fun.

Also Iran is the best country I have ever been to, and will be going back when I can afford it.

Turkmenistan is the worst country I have ever been to, and will never be going back unless I get paid a lot of money.
