My air bag light has been on in my dash every since i got the car (last may). I have never got round to looking at it but after a few skids on the ice I'm interested!

Does it mean it's not working or not connected?

I have has one of those checks done and it's never been involved in a crash.

hi lisa check the wiring to your front seat belts under you front seats could be a loose connection...........

should be easy to feel about best to push your seats forward as far as you can then look from the back of the seat i think they will be the only wires there..........hope it works

first up if your airbag light is on then the system is inactive. i.e. if you crash nothing will happen. If your gonna play with airbags you must disconnect the battery. if not you can set them off. i know people who have been knocked out by one and know of people killed by them. best way is to turn on the ignition and lights then pull the earth off. safest way... i dont know of any common airbag faults on polo's but I've worked you vag for 5 years and 99% of the time its either a faulty airbag or the slipring for the steering wheel airbag. and its more than possible the light will not go out if you do manage to fix the prob yourself. best thing is get the fault memory checked to tell you where to start. but be carefull. airbags are deadly if something goes wrong.

I couldn't hack it. I'm a little obsessive compulsive you see...

What you need is some black electrical tape...

The above comments are probably correct - the 'clock spring' is known to fail in the 6n2. It's a plastic ring with a PCB wire wound around it and a connector for the airbag system. It really does cost around £100.

The only thing is that ANY malfunction in the AIRBAG system will cause a fault to flag up - dry solder, ECU malfunction, break in a wire, bad earth.... Once activated, even if intermittent, it will cause the system to shut down permanently. Perhaps a VAGCOM scan may help or a friendly garage may scan the car for you.

Airbags may save your life.

I got this sorted out!

I got it connected up to vag-com and there was an error code relative to my air bag - it was nothing major and when i wiped the errors and re-ran it it brought nothing up and my light has gone.

I accidently removed my dash fuse but put it straight back in so everything works but the airbag light is on and I've tried disconnecting battery for 5 mins to see if it'll reset anything but it's still on.... anyone know if it needs plugging into a code reader or anything else to take the light off? (All airbag connections are securely in as I've checked and wasn't on before I removed the fuse and the fuse hasn't blown and in correctly).

You will need a CAN bus capable reader to switch the light off
