This isnt the EGR valve. Its the warm air feed when the engine is cold. At a guess the EGR

valve will be on the other side, and will come straight off the exhaust manifold.

sounds right to me.

na it aint the pipe coming from the exhaust manifold.on the main engine cover theres two pipes on the right hand side connected to the airbox, they aint very big either, i know what to do with one of them.but this one i dont have a clue, also if you cover it with your thumb you can find that theres suction.

thanks anyways.

it'l be the warm air pipe as said above, theres suction because the pipe gets smaller as it comes towards the front of the engine down to the wing where the intake is.....

na i dont think it is tbh.because this pipe is small,it's about a quarter of an inch in diameter.

does it come up from back left of engine? crankcase breather springs to mind.

The EGR WILL come directly off the exhaust manifold, nowhere else.

that wasnt the question

the EGR goes from the exhaust manifold directly into the side/bottom of the throttle... not the airbox.

it's not the crankcase breather either.

thanks.

one of our polos is a 1.4 16v, which I converted to a GTi so i know what things do!!!

the only pipes related to the air intake are the hot air one at the front of the engine (comes off the plastic intake pipe to the wing) and the crankcase breather from the back left of the engine.

on the 1.0's there looks like there are one or two vacuum pipes to the air cleaner box thing.

block this off, by screwing a screw into it, or you are going to have running problems....

na no running problems without pipe 22 and 23 of that diagram!had them of all weekend without problem.but then i was told that if pipe 23 got too much or too little air through it that i would have severe running problems.was also told that it was connected to the egr valve.

thanks.

I may be wrong, but weren't egr's fitted to later 1.4 in the 9n and 6L Ibizas not in 6n's?

6n2 1.4 16v (AUA) and 6n2 1.6 16v Gti (AVY) definately have them, as does the 1.4 16v 100bhp 6n (AFH?)

right well i had another look tonight, and took the part number from the valve that the pipe running to the airbox is coming from.and i can confirm that it is definetly the egr valve.i put the part number " 030 131 503 F " through etka and it comes up as the exhaust recirculation valve.but i still cant figure out why theres a pipe coming from the egr to the airbox, especially when the pipe aint blowing air its sucking it.

paul.

The pipe coming up from the back left of the engine is definately the crankcase breather. If you have a K&N and its the right one for your car, it should have a rotating nozzle underneath the housing of it, bit of spare pipe and a jubilee clip and get it on. Alternatively you could get one of these

That would sort it out,

EGR goes back to the throttle body/inlet manifold, and definately comes off the exhaust at somepoint.

Nope...the GTI's don't have them, i have both the AVY and ARC engines and neither have them. the AFH does though and it can run without it as i fitted a GTI manifold to an AFH and blocked off the EGR hole at the base of the throttle body.

There is a small thin vacuum hose that runs from the airbox or throttle body to the valve on the AFH manifold, so maybe its that. 8-)
