I always undo the top nut first while the car is on the ground. Seems to be the easiest way to me. I don't fully undo it though. Just loosen it off so when the car is jacked up you don't have to struggle getting it undone.

I know its not exactly a haynes manual and its all done with best intentions, but isnt it a bit irresponsible to show people how to do something like this incorrectly? or am I just getting old, I think i've been to too many health and saftey meetings

Anyway, I always find its easier to blow them off with a windy gun 8-)

you cannot get a ring spanner in the top cap on a mk2 golf, that is what is wrong with a ring spanner and not many people have an airgun to hand and those that do probably wouldn't need to read a guide how to fit coilovers.

Aye, point taken.

Just for reference though, if not an air gun you can always use an impact driver we used them to remove struts in scrap yards  And you can get them for under a tenner. Would save your knuckes anyway.

I'll go and stand in the corner and hold my head in shame.

well you corrected me on the cat c/d malarky so it's only fair i got my own back. you should know better having a rallye yourself, get some pics up too i miss my old rallye - think it was sold on here recently.
