i hit a curb at 40mph after some idiot cut me up the other day, and then a cat ran under my car on the way home!

took it to vw as there was a loud low pitch virbrating noise when i went over 70mph

they said i need:

one shock absorber

one wishbone mounting bracket

one track control arm

one track rod end

they quoted £800 parts and labour

being after christmas and all i blatently dont have that sort of money.

Can anyone give me an approximate value of the parts i need, and possibly where to buy? as i thought it would be much cheaper to buy the parts elsewhere and get vw to fit them.

there no local independant vw specialists round your way? id try round them if there are

thats what panda said but to be fair I'm not really sure what I'm looking for, i googled it but it came up with hardly anything

yep, just came up with specialist mechanics. not Vw specialists in particular

will vw fit the parts if i get them separately?

its a lot but you get a nice dealer receipt and warranty. id say £800 isnt too bad.

you might even get a nice new car for a hire while you getting it fixed!

lol, it's two days work tops. You don't need a hire car tbh.

Thats happened to me before

30 mph right of a kurb

Wishbone and everything was shot

100 + to get it repaired

All be it its a mk4, not shiny and new:P

I reckon I could source those parts for well under £150. Brand new too.

I got a track control arm for £9 and a track rod end for £7. Shocks are £35ea from VW iirc. Infact, I've got 2 in my garage with about 1000 miles on them, I bought before i bought my coilovers just to get it thru its MOT.

Not sure what they mean by wishbone bracket. Will have to check tonight on my parts catalogue.

its ok guys I've jus told vw to do it all, genuine parts and labour i suppose. look good when i sell it.
