Featured Replies

Hi all! Long time since I posted, but have always been on the forums....

Dont know if anyone would remember but I used to have a mk4 polo (Black one with good few bits done - See Avatar). I Sold that to a mate about 7months ago and since then bought a Corrado VR6, and a mk3 Polo too for the girlfriend. (ill get up pics later in you want) Well I was just given a proper project car for free too. Some of you may know it... It was a known car in the UK not so long ago and actually featured in Performance VW too... It was built by a lad called Rob Simpson a couple of years back...and used to have the following spec: It was a great little car and will be again some time soon! The engine and most bits have since been transplanted else where... Although the shell did come with the race spec coilovers, top mounts, single wiper and most exterior mods...Solid straight little car that'll make a nice project, nice to have something with some history too...

HERES THE PLANS I HAVE IN MIND FOR IT>>>>>

Full Respray+ a little bit of smoothing...

Mk3 GT engine box and loom

Bogg Bros bike Carb set-up

4 branch and straight tru system

Head work and Shrick Cam

Fuel cell in the back

Big brakes up front (looking into a 256mm 4pot willwood kit group buy over on clubpolo)

Disc conversion on the rear

Some new wheels (Still undecided)

Hydraulic handbrake

Fully stripped interior, everything except the dash

2 New fixed back buckets + harnesses

Full cage + strut braces

Motorsport bits - Plexi windows, kill swith, bonnet pins, bike mirrors etc

Should have a rebuilt engine, fuel cell and a new bike carb set-up jetted for the GT waiting, just gotta go collect them in the next few days.

ANYWAY HERES A FEW PICS AS IT STANDS>>>>

Ah good stuff.... Must be cool to see it again... Its in good nick, photos really dont do it justice...

Dont worry I will!

Dont worry, it was looking abit sorry for itself when Glen had it parked up LOL, but its gonna get a new lease of life...

Ill keep you updated

Oh... Just a quick one, what is the suspension like on the road?

Edited by 1stcarsapolo

I'm sure you'll do it justice, looking forward to the transformation.

As for the suspension, with the 175/50/13's it handled bloody brilliantly

although the ride was...well...very hard. 8-)

if you decide to sell the collies let me know ill take em off you are hands and I've also got a gmax set up if you want to do a bit of a deal, the ride isnt as harsh with the gmax but still handles well

and you are going down the same route as me with the engine although I'm using dellorto twin 40s so i know at least I'm doing sumthing right lol

Ye whole motor is actually gone into a mk1 golf now... Pity but hey, I wanna make it my own now..

If anyone knows of any more pictures or possibly has the magazine features any chance of a scanned version or take a photo of them even? I'm building a folder to go with the car and want as much as possible in it... Would be nice to have like...

PROGRESS...

Got the shell completely stripped in the past couple of days, carpet, sound deadening, any unneccessary wiring, cut out a few unwanted brackets began to prep the inside for spray... Its coming along already...

Actually meant to be heading over to Wales and England tommoro to collect the engine etc, fuel cell and bike carb setup. (Thats if the boats going with the bad fog.... :? )

get pics up soon..

I thought I had a very unremarkable little polo when I got my 1st mk2 square until I saw this. It was one of the main influences for me getting into cars. Here you go....

Cheers for the pics lads... Heres a quick update...

Went on a spin over to Wales and England for all the bits yesterday.

Picked up the following from lads on polo3.co.uk

Suzuki GSXR 600 nike carb setup, manifold, facet fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator / filter.

Bogg Bros in yorkshire built the manifold and stripped clean and rejetted the carbs and the kit is all new, never fitted.

The manifold is a work of art... Lovely bit of kit, flared pipes, very smooth flowing and lovely external polished finish.

Then made a spin down to Swansea then for a GT engine, box and all the bits... Oh and he had this aluminium fuel tank for sale too so brought it with me but I'm not sure about it. I was planning on sitting it where the back seats used to be but I was kind of looking for something abit smaller..

(Might keep the engine cover and get rid of the 1.0 litre part, we'll see.
