Easier said than done... Ok cheers for reply...

Your best friend is max_crox's post in the Mark2 members gallery. It details how to put a GT lump into a Mark2 and all the bits you'll need to swap over, along with wiring.

UPDATE

Made abit of progress last night. Got the engine and gearbox mounted with a mate for mocking everything up. Gonna see whats needed and whats not and what can be hidden, then take it back out and sort the shell out completely. The idea now is to hide as much as possible in th scuttle tray and then sheet carbon the top of it.... From looking at it...An aluminium rad with a draw through fan to clean up the look of the rad would also be nice...

Got my old smoothed 6N rocker cover back off a mate who bought my old 6N ....Sound man! Cleans off the 1.0 litre badge nicely + mk4 golf badge...

The manifold actually needs abit of fettling (filing) to let the nuts go fully onto the studs from the head... Its tight and the nuts wont seat right at the end due to the weld where the pipe meets the flange.

Heres a few pics of it sitting in... Ill start mounting the bits and plumbing it in soon... Needs a 4 branch badly!

Oh and heres a few pics I took of the straps and brackets I started making for the fuel tank...

Nice to see it sitting in so can picture the end product...

Still undecided as to what colour to paint it... Black with gold centred wheels... maybe white with satin black interior and black centred revolutions with polished lips or maybe Brown? lol

What you reckon?

  • Author

No... Sure its only mocked up at the min... Jasus it better be... LOL. its about 60 degrees in reality... Some of the others pictured on the bogg bros website actually sit vertically all togethert? anyone shed any light on this?

Ha... Cheers again Simmo...!

Ha good stuff... Glad you never got a corsa mate... Used to have a 6N myself - see avatar... So you can get a mk2 after it like me!lol

Trying to sort brakes now at the min... Soon be ordering cage too... Cant make up my mind what to go for, or what colour?

Project kind of on hold for a little while.... The NCT (Irish Version of MOT) on my Corrado is nearly out so sorting a few bits on it... Also finally took into the garage step with a sledge last night at about ten o clock with the lads to get rid of it so can put the cars in... Always caught on em with them being low... Happy days the corrados in out of the cold too...

good to see this car has gone to a good home and being brought back to it's former glory. Can't believe you got it for free! with coilovers as well.

Not so sure about that fuel tank though, if you are actually going to do trackdays with it then all that is doing is moving a load of weight (the fuel) higher up and raising the overall centre of gravity. I'd just stick with the stock tank which is nice and low under the car. It's not like there should be anything on a track which will catch it. I'd only want a tank like that for doing rallys etc...

i think it would look amazing on allycats with bbs gold, centres!! Love that video....

  • Author

@ Hayesey - Very true mate.... Its just that I got the tank for V little and really like the look of an alloy tank in the back..... To be honest its way too big for my liking.... When I say track car its only really abit of fun... Nothing serious anyway. But one of my mates offered to buy it off me for his rallycross mk1 golf a few times so who knows... Not welding in the brackets till I'm sure anyway...

Aww Mc tangus that sounds perfect ye... I love alleycats and loved the gold centred ra's on it before but wanted wider.... How did I actually never think of that combo... Good man! Now to find a set... Wonder will I get away with 13x8s out back with the arch work that was done before... Fup it Ill get a set anyway and do them because if not Ill put them on my mk3... Think Ill get eights all round because I'm going to do some serious arch work up front too...

Thanks for the comments guys!!

Anyone ever have any dealings with sorg motorsport from Germany? Was on their site translating and they seem to do GRP front wings with wide arches... Not sure tho...???

dont know but I've been looking at sorg stuff go into the engines section and have a look should be on the 1st page only asked the other day.info about a u.k dealer but not sure if there still importing stuff.

there are a few goof bits on ebay.de proberly the best place to look

sorg.....you should just put this in it :p

Clicky

yeah go 8 all around with some mad arches....if its gunna be a track car then a wide stance cant be the wrong thing to do!! Not sure where you could get some gold bbs paint from though?! What colour are you going to paint it when the bodyworks done? But yeah...you can beat gold wheels on a black car...!!

Got a PPP front subframe / wishbone conversion too from grungeisdead on here! SOUND! Should sort the handling nicely... all thats needed to finish off the underside is rear axle bushes and front TCA's... (both coming from G-laderite in Germany).

And I got a set of 3 poly engine mounts from a group buy over on the g40 owners club. 2 fitted, will do the third tonight hopefully.

maryandpaulscrash1094.jpg

maryandpaulscrash1113.jpg

Trial fit, tiny bit of fiddling needed, not much...

There bilstein front shocks in standard front arms customised with threaded section for height adjustment...Front have eccentric top mounts and rears are height and dampening adjustable leda coilovers with bottom rose joints... all disassmbled, cleaned and sprayed up...

Oh and the steering rack is out and all sprayed up now too... satin black instead of flakey blue.

OLD Vs NEW

maryandpaulscrash1109.jpg

maryandpaulscrash1099.jpg

maryandpaulscrash1121.jpg

Old AAT sticker is only sitting on, think ill get a few nice little small bilstein stickers for front struts

Think ill get rid of the tank I have and get one that fits in the spare wheel well...

I think I've sorted a set of seats for it too... New BRIDE buckets... LOL

Bodywork to begin soon... Know what I'm doing bodywork wise now, Berg arches out front and custom breadvan style wide ones out back...
