  • Loving the progress, Any updates? :) Adam.

  • You should get a ban for doing that!!! :-D I was really guttetted!

I never had it dyno'ed, But, I've had a fair few MK1 1600 GTi's in the past

and I'd put the old squareback on par performancewise.

Builds looking good 8-) I made the AAT stickers for the struts and handcut

all the logo's underside of the bonnet, took me ages!!

Bike carbs look just the ticket too! 8-)

Ha... your not serious... I can well imagine it must have took ages.... I've just bought some little bilstein stickers for the front struts... after all your hard work lol.

Mate your Mk3 is lovely stuff.

Rado is rather sharp as well.

Yup, in my "younger days" I used to handcut Litho and vinyl graphics,

did loads of Bikes and zebra stripes (remember them!) 8-)

i'm going motorsport-look, but more tarmac rally than berg-cup as it suits the roads near me better... got the tyres off my pimpin compomotives, getting the centrebore opened out so they'll fit, then a ghetto refurb till i can afford to get em done properly.

i want a full turret-turret cage in mine... 8-)

Ha zebra stripes will make a come back simmo... LOL

Please dont get me wrong... BERG style doesnt suit my local roads either... wooops...

Actually bit disapointed.. The chap I was sourcing the arches from doesnt do them anymore? Ill prob have to buy from some of the German crowds now... anyone shed any light on this? I know PPP dont do them anymore...??

Heres a few pics I found on my camera... there old enough..

As I got stuck into the polo its gradually getting more track orientated... Progress is slow as I propably should have got the shell sandblasted first but sure hey its too late now have about 80% of hard grat done...

Berg hillclimb kit i got from www.wl-motorsport.de based on the nurburgring just sitting on... A MASSIVE THANKS TO PHILJ FOR HIS HELP WITH THIS> Where are my friends when you need em, kit held on with tape and held up with bottles etc... Its actually a super fit and 1000% better than the first berg arches I got. Few small cracks but can be sorted easy enough. The splitter was an after thought really. I was about to order the arches on there own and knew it'd need some sort of a splitter to look right so asked did they do a matching one. Translation was very difficult German-english and I struggled to get them to send a picture of it... In the end I bought it without seeing it... LOL. Couldnt be happier tho... Its snow plough time! LOL. It'll have to clip on and off for road driving or for getting onto a trailer. It already touches the grass with no engine or weight in the car... hillarious stuff really....

My favourite bit... wider GRP back breadvan arches... LOL..

msg-1099-1245368897.jpg

Cutting bits off my car

Picture1356.jpg

Spare wheel well removed to allow for massive rear diffuser

Picture1360.jpg

Sherlock caught playing in the spare wheel well once removed... lol

Picture1373.jpg

It was wierd the way the back arches had been extended before and would have been much easier starting with an original car but sure hey... On each side there was a new quater panel arch cut out and bent abit then riveted onto quater panel. The original back arches were cut out roughly and the whole lot fibregalssed over.... Took me a while to figure out what was going on. LOL

What I seen when I tore off the riveted on extra quater panels..

Picture1351.jpg

Drivers side had took abit of a tap before and had quite alot of fibreglass and filler in it..

I now need to slice up the inner arch, bend it up and weld it to the outer skin to watertight it all.. Then rivet GRP berg arch over it all ready to take some nice wide tyres...

Picture1353.jpg

Passenger side much neater again needs same treatment.. Bit more trimming to do.

Picture1354.jpg

Messing test fitting Sherlock's mate Killians SSR mesh Tincan wheels that are like 9J et -3o something. Lol. Abit too wild alright but the style id like...

Picture1375.jpg

The cage is a 6Point OMP one purchased from murray motorsport in Dublin, ireland..

A good bit of progress since so Ill update it soon, as I said these are old pics

This is looking ratherepic alot of work going into it ..

The Rally kit looks insane i think it will look alot better once on and lined up with the car cant believe you found wide arches fopr the rear of a bready :o

Keep up the good work mate ..

Cheers ye the splitter lines up nice but its hanging down in the pic because I had no one to hold it...

Ye i can see the back arches catching on alright... LOl but I wanna be one of the first around to get em on...

omg..berg cup ooofff

coming along nicely, mateyboys wheels are lush man properly, i think i just made a mess in my pants.

what a peculiar way of doing the breadies arches initially, mind you its nothing compared to hardcharging g40s attempt with some tin snips

the omp cage is nice, you should see if you can get a welder to put in some door braces and a brace bar along the rear passenger footwell tunnel, and while hes there its probably rude for him not to weld in across the top of the windscreen inside

man then after all thats done, id be like fuck it I'm paying the good wonga, extend the cage off to the front suspension turrets.

a car that looks as insane as that inside wants to look that insane on the inside, not like will antirocks tho, it was a very nice cage but looks far too overly complex for my liking

  • Author

Oh it comes with the door bars, there cut to length just need the ends welding in and they will bolt in and out to be remoavble... They give them to you long so you cut them to length and determine heights and angles yourself.

And i ordered another two off motorsport tools dot com and have made a rear harness bar / strut brace and have one for additional bracing from main hoop back to rear turrents and have some gusseting too for the a and b pillars...

Ill have to get better pics up lads...

i saw a cage recently but cant remember where, which had diagnoal door bars, they would be a far better solution for day to day driving if you ever do. with bucket seats i struggle to get in and out of my car eloquently and with the door bars in i would never have managed it especially i was parked in a car park, id go for the out the window affair!

I'm sure if you can weld them in yourself you can set whatever angle you want, if i come across the piccie again ill stick it up here

  • Author

There'll be no out the window stuff here... theyll be plastic with sliders and I aint quite that small .lol

Seeing it with the splitter and arches makes it looks like its the little brother to this...

P1260093.jpg

Looks good though man, top stuff

And hell those wheels are nice!!!
