Hopefully getting all red rears without the reverse light on my 6n2 and I was just wondering if its illegal or not? I know its not an MOT failiure.

i got stopped some time ago for having a red reverse light by police,,,dont think he knew what he was talking about as he ended up appolagising lol,,,was quite funny.

You do not need a reversing light for an MOT

You must have at least one rear fog light for the MOT (supposed to be on the drivers side but Pug 206's seem to get away with it in the centre)

tell you what though mate..I've got lhd lights on my 6n and the amount of people that i get mentioning that i have a light out lol when infact my lights arent on and I'm reversing lol

As I was reversing out of my street before a woman stopped me and said youv only got 1 reverse light

Hmmmmm, thats interesting! The copper that lives across the road from my parents told me to get my reverse light changed and i told him it wasnt a MOT failure and he said that it IS a road infringement.

I think he was being a cock as i used to wake him up at 6am going to work!

yep you cant have a red reverse light, but you can get rid of them.

just run a wire from yor other fog to the "reverse" bulb so you have 2. thats what I'm gonna do if i ever get round to changing my lights! lol

i think that if there is a reverse light is there it has to be white and a red one would be illegal due to obvious confusion as other signals are red. So simply removing the bulb would solve the problem, just make sure you look behind you to see it is clear before you reverse as it will be harder for people to tell

Now if youve deliberately covered up the reverse light then it might be complicated.

Sorry mate, but either you've been given bad advice or you've pulled that out of somewhere. The reversing light isn't tested as part of an MOT.

A red reversing light may be an offence under construction and use, but not one that taking the bulb out would prevent.

Never had mine tested in a MOT and it didnt work at the time either

Some new car have such shit reversing lights that you cant see clearly anyway so there pointless

Oh so true! My Skoda's are about three feet off the ground and you could be reversing over any kind of shit . They are a nice design though.

It is legal for the reverse light to be either red or white, however if you do have a reverse light, it has to be in working order.

As a rule you are only allowed to have red lights visible to the rear of a vehicle, but there are exceptions for white reversing lights, amber indicators and registration plate lights.
