Is Not Having A Reverse Light Illegal?

Featured Replies

It's only there for 'common courtesy' so I was told by the MOT tester. The police officer though did say that it was an infrigement but I've never had any problems. You just have to be more aware when reversing!

You don't have to have a reverse light fitted BUT if one is fitted to your vehicle is has to be in working order i.e. you can't just take the bulb out.

Also the reversing light MUST be white.

Not sure if it's an MOT failure but from a legal perspective it has ot be i) in full working order if fitted AND ii) white light

Chances of ever being caught and prosecuted are almost zero and it's only £30 if you do get caught but now no one can say they haven't been told :)

LoL

I got told something like that by a clueless guy at work.

It's a volkswagen thing. You wouldn't understand!

you do not nead one for a mot. eaven if its on the car thay do not check it..

I did use 2 55W spotlamps on a manual switch as reversing lights and it went through the MOT no probs.
