What Is Craziest Car Related Story You Ever Heard

Featured Replies

After reading the 'What a find' post on here, and the warehouse welded shut full of sports cars etc story, i got wondering:

What is the craziest story relating to cars that you have ever heard? maybe you know it for a fact, or maybe it a bit of an old wives tale?

Il start:

I heard that when Deloreon folded back in the 80's they dug up a feild and burried a load of shells and components. There was no markers or identifiers, but there is a field somewhere in Ireland with a load of Deloreons buried in it.

I honestly dunno if it is true, but i like the story. :-o

Haha that would be an awesome story for an Irish farmer down at the local.....

"Aye a was ploughin' da field yonder and a caught ma plough on sumtin hard, like a big stone. Got out my trusty spade and twas a deloreon":lol:

in 1984 (i think) ford went on strike and pushed all their part built cars outside and when the strike was over pushed them back in and painted them. makes me laugh true or not........thats why you don't see many/any d plate s1 turbo's apparently. haha!

yea they sat outside for quite a while! I think my old xr3i was one of them!

I heard that Rovers longbridge plant didnt used to have a tunnel which ran the unsprayed cars to the spraying booth over the road, instead they used to load bare metal cars with no protection, onto a car transporter truck, drive em down the road in all weather conditions n then just spray em...

...the only detail i think that might not be correct is the rover part, kind of a key point i know, but it sounds like somat us plucky brits would do lol

Haha! Trusty spade... sorry that just killed me. Megalolz at text accents.

I think the craziest story I've heard was my mate telling me my car used to be many coke cans once apon a time. I told him they didn't recycle that long ago. :( Fail.

fact: the old jaguar xkr has over a mile of cable in it.

i went to their plant in coventry before it closed down on a school trip, years ago, and the tour person proudly told us that fact.

a guy that worked for fords at boreham at this time , once told me that when the group b rally car RS200`s were being built , their had to be 200 road going examples for the cars to be eligable to rally , these had to be verified by an inspector .

in the factory they parked 200 cars , tight together so you could not walk between them , as the cars on the edge were complete and as they went further to the cornner they got less complete untill they were just shells on axel stands with glass in .

this was so they could rally in the 1983 season ( i think ) which they did ( but not very well )

so their was never actually 200 road cars produced as most of them got used for rallying in the end .

^^^^^^^, or the group B rally got abandoned as the rs200 ran its "fourth or fith" race and a 6R4 smashed into a oad of spectatorsand killed a load?, meaning they never got chance to sell them all, and it was a time when folks couldntafford the stupidly high price ford was asking for a Farankenstien sierra?

or i might be a bit drunk and all that is bollocks?

The body panels are. Doubt the rest of the chassis/engine will be though.

a metal detector, a JCB and a car trailer you mean?

Great Scott! 1.21 Gigowatts!

you must have been plastered fella , but it was a lancia delta S4 that ploughed into spectators , and in the rally after the sister car flew off a cliff in a ball of flames and all the manufactures pulled out as a sign of repect , then they got banned in 1986 .

i checked a couple of things and the Rs200 was built for the 1985 season , group B started in 1983/84 ish

and the RS200 was 1800 cc in early for and shared nothing with the sierra apart from the doors and dash board i believe

i love group B 8-)

Not car related, but i hear that somewhere round here ther are 25-30 Rolls Royce 'plane engines, boxed and unused, buried in a field somewhere after WWII, and they are worth about £100,000 each!

And a friend of mine told me that in the early 90's, him and a mate had a spare, brand new unused, Courtenay Astra GTE engine that they didn't know what to do with, so they put it in a bin at Waveney Applegrowers, and it's possibly still there now...

wiggy, i think you and me should invest in a couple of metal detectors.

20,000 Club Polo members, how big is ireland? I think if we took a trip over there, all gathered a distance around and walked inwards we'd find some pretty cool stuff :D

Indeed

why keep it to just ireland? we could take over the world with our argos metal detectors...

hidden pirate treasure ftw 8-) 8-)

My boss told me a little while back that when Ford were closing down one of its plants in Dagenham a few years back they were clearing all the cars out of the compounds and someone found 2 brand new Mk2 Ford Cortinas parked round the back of one of the buildings. Apparently they had been moved round there for one reason or another just after they had been built in the late 60's and were just forgotten about. It wasnt until this chap walks round there 35 years later that they were found. They were literally brand new and had never been registered. I'm sure they werent in great condition by that point but that must of been quite a find.

True or not? You decide.

For this to work, each member would have to cover 3.5143 square kilometers each, maths FTW!

noob question, and quite embarrased to even ask it, but what does "FTW" stand for.

been trying to work it out for ages!
