Cant see a merlin engine pulling £100k? They made plenty. But a long time ago I suppose.

I'm sure they would be rather furry by now though having been in a field for that long!

Not car related, but i hear that somewhere round here ther are 25-30 Rolls Royce 'plane engines, boxed and unused, buried in a field somewhere after WWII, and they are worth about £100,000 each!

And a friend of mine told me that in the early 90's, him and a mate had a spare, brand new unused, Courtenay Astra GTE engine that they didn't know what to do with, so they put it in a bin at Waveney Applegrowers, and it's possibly still there now...

I've got a brand new never run refurbished one next to my desk at work. £100,000 you say....

On a more interesting note this car had a merlin engine.

And I think its still taxed in the UK. If you do a DVLA vehicle enquiry it shows the capacity to be 27000cc

My boss was telling me the other week that the reason VW did a 'Genesis' Version was to celebrate a big tour by Phil Collins' band of the same name.

whether this is true or not I'm not sure

One of the staff members of Practical Performance Car magazine has got a Rover SD1 with a Merlin Engine. Yes they are 27 litres!

ah that reminds me of another story related to the XJ220

i was working in a building in stowmarket or bury st edmunds , the building was being turned in to a glasswells furniture store , as i did ceilings so i never saw this , but the site manager was saying that when they started the planning they were setting out walls and stuff and came acrss a void inside the building , the site manager said " bang a hole in that wall " and behold behind the wall covered in years of dust was a 0 miles silver XJ220 . as it turns out the manager of the previous company that was in the building had bought it as an investment on the sly and bricked it in the hole , the company went bust , but the manager couldn`t get the car out as the recivers were in and then the building work started . the car ended up in the hands of the recivers and was sold at auction

Same thing happened in cardiff last year or the year before, it was a funiture place on Weston Avenue iirc

That is true, and the RHD G40 Genisis was given away/competion prize at one of their UK concerts in '92.

A french car company that needed to display the 200 cars it had to build to qualify for a race series got all 50 cars that it had built and lined them up in a row. When the inspector arrived at the facytory the company took him out to lunch and got him rather drunk!! When they went back to the line of 50 cars, as he walked along the line counting with the company manager, members of staff drove the already counted cars from the front of the que to the back so that it they could be counted again - all a sudden they had 200 cars and qualified - probably a load of shit but none the less a cunning plan..

Peugeot came under much scrutiny shortly after,when people suspected that there was no evidence of anywhere near the required 200 of the rear-engined 205 T16s in existence.

2 British fighter pilots got court doing over 130mph in a 911 Turbo on a motorway down south............. driving with no lights on & wearing night vision goggle's

this was around the time that night vision goggle's were pretty new & i was told this story by RAF ground crew

During the Foot and Mouth outbreak a few years ago,a company called SNOWIE got the

contract for picking up the dead carcases and running them to landfill sites around Scotland.

The fleet of lorries and trailers they used for doing this were scapped at the end of the

breakout and the Goverment supplied him with 50 BRAND NEW lorries and trailers....

I also heard that one got stuck in a landfill site....so they just buried it where it got stuck.

i heard that too, supose it would be better safe to destroy them all than have another outbreak !
