Hi all, i hope to be replacing my boot soon. has anyone got tips for doing so?

make sure you have a mate or two to help, as its a right pain trying to hold it and bolt it on! two mates would be better as they can hold it whilst you bolt it on. really simple job to be honest.

the only other tip is that its best to leave the bolts a little bit slack, so you can check its aligned ok, then tighten up. oh and its a good idea to swap the locks and any other bits before fitting!

gonna swap the lock for sure as it doesn't come with a key as the yard need the key for the rest of the locks.

Also, what about the electrics for the heated screen and number plate lights? do they just unplug somewhere?

i replaced my boot before it went,

the electrics are the bit thats a pain in the arse

the loom splits into 2 bits

pull the connecters off the heated windshield and follow them to the rubber grommet where they pass into the boot, pull the rubber grommet out and pass the connecter through, on both sides

unplug the lights, sure these are on a different loom that you can disconnect somewhere

do it, otherwise you'll find it really difficult to pull the loom through

if you look on the side of the loom, you see the rubber pipe connecting the loom as it comes from the car to the boot...pull this apart and start to pull the loom through.

its just time and persistence...once the loom is disconnected, unscrew the boot gas lifts then look at where the hinges connect to the boot

2 bolts on either hinge, unbolt them and tug the boot to break the seal

like john said, swap the locks before you fit it......4 bolts takes the trim off above the number plate and 2 catches on the inside of the boot release the lock...could be abit stiff to move if its never been off.

Good stuff Neil. I was thinking of cutting the loom at the connector plug and simply re-attaching it to the loom on my car either using crimps or solder and heatshrink. would probably save time?

yeah you could do

but as soon as you split the loom at the connector block

its pretty easy to thread it through

i forgot and started pulling it through, it just went wrong.....all wrong lol

simple solution for the loom.....

if the replacement t/gate still has the loom i.e. if the loom was just chopped rather than removed, attach some thing gauge cable to it, then pull it through as you remove the loom. you can then use this wire to pull the new loom back in.

@ Jon, the car is intact at the scrappy... only came in yesterday!

did think of that actually. looking forward to going to get it this afternoon now.

Got the bootlid this afternoon! had the car a year to the day so a good present.

The wiring was straightforward, re-fitting it should be too.

Next and hopefully final question: How do i get the lock barrel out? i have removed the plynth now and it is loose, just need to see a pic of how to remove it!

look at it from the back

theres two clips on either side

push them in and push the lock assembly outwards

should pop out

there pretty stiff mind

need to pull that metal wire thingy off too

just pull for that one
