20vts are much easily tuneable.. Main reason why i got one coz I wanted some high power figures..

id go for a vr personally, gotta love that noise

such a difficult question but i think i would want the vr, purely for the noise

having owned vr6 and done a mk2 vr6 conversion also several 1.8t's it has to be 1.8t all the way. vr6's are underpowered and too heavy imo.

I can't believe how many people would prefer a VR6 conversion just because of the sound they make! The VR6 is a piss poor engine in comparison with the 1.8T. Heavy, not very durable, thirsty and with a measily 170 bhp from 2.8 litres it's only saving grace is the noise it makes. It also costs a fortune to do anything worthwhile to them.

I've been out in a mk2 Golf with a 2.9 VR6 Corrado conversion with big exhaust, chip and filter mods. It was a very nice conversion, the bloke had built it using the best parts and it ran superbly. It probably had more than 200 bhp and was nice and torquey, pulling really quite hard to the red line. However, it wasn't exactly what I call really fast. Considering what he must of spent on it, the end result wasn't particularly impressive.

The 1.8T is a much better engine all round, far easier and cheaper to tune too. Fitted to the same chassis you'd get better handling too.

cool but if it didnt come with leathers would they fit? so a remap, exhaust and filter an fmic with dump should see 230-240bhp then maybe add cam of not to expnsive?

And you will need a bigger turbo too, the K03 out of a standard GTI, you won't see that much power. In the 180b.h.p as standard with the K03s you get you around that power

You get 220bhp with a KO3s and CC remap.

200bhp will be fast enough anyway in a fwd car.

At the moment there is not too much in price to buy, but running costs are different. I got my vr down to single didgits on mpg, drive like a granny and you can get near 30 for mixed driving, 70 on the motorway you get near 34-36, but in the 1.8t i was gettig near 10mpg more.

Having done a fair few miles in my mates 1.8T TT, I'd agree with that, yeah, if you give them beans, they're thirsty, but what isn't? If you drive it normally though, it sips fuel.

Yes i would agree, but what i was gettin at, is the 1.8t was giving about 10mpg more in every situation. Which depending on your mileage can soon add up
