Won't Start?

Featured Replies

Evening all,

As the title says, my little polo won't start. I'm not very mechanically minded so bear with me; It turns over freely and occasionally splutters but never fully starts, and then the battery goes flat. When recharged the same happens again

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Try jumping it off someone elses car, instead of recharging it, if the batterys nackered it wont be able to hold enough charge to start the car.

Gave that a go, and the same happens :(

Any fuel in the tank. Dont trust the gauge. If so are the pumps pumping

Could take a plug out & see if its wet. Check for a spark @ the same time

Had this recently with my car (also a 1.0 MK3), was getting fuel and a spark at the plugs but the spark was weak, replaced the leads dizzy cap and rotor arm and that cured it.

If you are not getting a spark through the king lead (going to the centre of the cap) then it could be the coil/module.

Had a look at the spark plugs and they were all pitted etc, soo replaced them and gave the HT leads and dizzy cap a good clean and we were off! Only had to wait an hour for the next calamity, the clutch pedal linkage thingy snapped so the clutch pedal wasn't connected and car undrivable, all at a busy junction :( had to wait for greenflag to come and get me. Not a good few days for the polo.

i has a similar problem with my grandads corsa it turned out to be flooded.i disconnected the plug on the fuel pump and turned it over for a while and it started.rev until it uses up all the juice.plugged back together and shes fine now.
