Hi Everyone. Noticed today quite a loud creaking noise coming from the rear end of my 6n 16v. its quite loud in the car and i have no idea what it is. sounded worse than ever today so stopped the car and shook the rear wheels and it sounds like its coming from somewhere near there. I'm thinking suspension related because it seems you can hear it when you put weight on the car or if your booting it a bit when you accelerate and the car pulls you hear it. I'm hoping it is suspension because I've just ordered my coilies. any other suggestions?? hoping its nothing too serious

Mine's done it since I've had it, think it's the bushes as I've had 2 set's of shocks on it

its weird though because sometimes happen when i accelerate fast out of a gear. thought at first it was coming from seat. it may be coming from somehwere under the cvar. dont sound too healthy though. how much am i looking at if its the bushes?? thanks

and I'm worried it may be something more serious. also occasionally happens when i go around a corner. could be due to the car being stood for a while and only recently being used all the time.

and its not going to do much damage driving it as my coilies haven't arrived yet.

Right sound is more like a 'woodpecker' sound. like badabadabada really fats exactly like a woodpecker. sounds like middle of car now though :S. i suppose its not a sort of eeeeek creak.

any ideas on that. jus been out too long. if i shake the wheel i can hear it or if i bounce on the dirvers seat with the door open. iots definately not coming from inside the car. and is getting louder.

take it to a garage, could be you're zorst

I'm a bit dubious to take it too a garage because it doesnt happen every time you drive it. they will probably drive it and say no there was nothing worng. luck of the draw i suppose. although it is getting worse definately.

One way to find out... I reckon it will be either rear beam or exhaust, as there the only parts that move in that area.... oooh hang on, wonder if it's a rear wheel bearing... Get it checked either way.

Hey i've an 8v and I have a similar sound, next time you drive and hear the noise put your hand on the bottom of the handbrake lever.

I can normally feel the noise if that makes sense, I've been told its the exhaust rattling underneath the car and not too worry about it.

now you say that it probably is the exhauste , as it changes shape slightly as it get hotter , or rustier

the rubber mounts also move and wear so worth checking in case you exhaust is about to fall off

id check your rear drums are tight mate. pop the center cap off the rear drum brakes and c if the center nut is nipped up tight enough

Has your exhaust fallen off? its not trailing along behind you is it? lol

i have the same problem on my 9n... can't figure out where it comes from, and it only happens sometimes.... mostly when I'm on a bumpy road or when the car is sitting idle and falls below 700rpm

I have the same sodding probem on my 9n1, comes from the rear too even when the car tilts due to heavy accel/braking.

It's going into the garage next Friday and they've looked at it before and they think it's console bushes or something.

I have this problem and have found as the car warms up the. Zorst taps against the bottom metal section of the bumper so I bent it out a little and wah la fixxed!
