hiii all I'm new to this site, i have a 2000 6n2 polo and I'm thinkin of puttin a 18" sub in ... box needs 6cubic feet.... is it a silly idea ?? do you think it will fit?? or should i jus stick to a 15"? hmmmm let me know your thorts an please feel free to post boot install pics cheers !!

if its just a boot install personally i think 18 too big

1x15 or 2x 15s is enough really its not how big it is its how you power it and if you know your stuff

why bother? i have a 12 inch fusion powerplant and amp, when up on high gain feels like my chest is going to collapse and ears burst. i run it on low gain and low frequency response and it sounds good, too much bass just makes music sound wank.

A 18" sub maybe abit excessive in an olop. I had a 12" DVC Rockford sub running off a 1000w RMS amp. I couldn't have it on loud without it screwing my head up!

hmmm i have 1 15" in custom slot port box 4 cu.ft (tuned to 33hz) i think does sound really good. but its a 250wattrms sub an i have a 500rms JL amp so i was thinkin of changin the sub anyway to make the most of my amp. iv never herd the sound out of an 18" and you might be right it may not sound good with the music might be too low ... I'm not to sure what sub to go for now.

With the right system, 2 x 12" subs in a ported box could easily reach 140+db!!!! and for not much money either!!!

its the box that makes a system good or bad and there is definately no need at all for an 18", or even a 15" if you want big bass

I may just bosh the other 2 subs in the bready with the big amp and a suitable box and see if I can get 145db!

seriously, as long as you have a decent box built to the correct specs and a decent amp, the sub size qont matter!

my mate had jl audio in his car, a twin slot ported box with a couple of 12w1v2 coupled with a jl 1800 amp and 4 gauge wiring, although the subs are only like £70 each, they was still producing 145 db!!!

No need for an 18", a proper 15" or two 12's will do the business.

I'm running 1200wrms into an RE SX15 in a 4.0cu.ft box, fills the whole boot, shakes the shit out of the car, the front side windows have a couple mm of play in the them from playing it full whack with the windows half down.

If you've got the cash you could just take the back seats out, and run 2 15's or 4 12's in a box that takes up the whole back of the car...

k i think 18" is way 2 big and still a 15" is 2 big its not realy the size of the sub that matters its the power it can kick out i have a.

12" sub box constructed from 3/4" MDF

with a directed amp.

the bass sounds real good when set right.

the bass that comes from the sub is unbearable if everything is turned up u cannot even sit in the car.

thats all i have to say but its a real good sub

Essentially, you need at least 1000wrms, that in a Polo would be loud.

If you're running one sub, 15's generally drop lower, and will wreck your car easier.. sound deadening helps.

For most subs of that power you'll need at least 3cu.ft ported box, that will take up your boot.

Also if you're running 1200wrms off an amp you're charging system will probably struggle.

You'll need at the very least 4 gauge wiring, though use 0 gauge if budget allows. The Big 3 helps alot, see FAQ section.

If you're gonna run another amp for components alongside the sub's amp, it's time to think about a second or uprated battery, and/or a more powerful alternator, or you'll drain your standard ones very quickly.

so now is the time tho decide, do you really wanna loose your boot? do you really want to spend loads on wiring and extra batteries etc etc etc all for a bit of bass when you could buy a package for £200 and get the bass you want??
