alright guys,

I have a slight problem with my 6n2. As i turn right or go over 60 this wurling noise keeps happening. doesn't seem to happen when i turn left. think it might be wheel bearing?

ALSO, occasionally when my car has been parked for a day or so as i go to pull away there is a nock sound coming i think from the back passengers side wheel just before i begin to move as if somthings stuck but works free and its fine after.

any help will be amazing.

yes the noise is most likely a wheel bearing, can you tell which corner of the car it's coming from? Sounds like a front bearing though as rear ones usually whine constantly when they are worn out whereas front ones will do it more or less when you steer. Easiest solution is to remove the hub and take it to a garage who have a press, along with a new bearing and ask them to press the old one out and put the new one into the hub. Then put the hub on the car yourself. Also, I'd only buy a bearing from VW as you can't always guarantee the ones from places like GSF will be any good (they use lots of different suppliers and sometimes the bearings can be a bit crap), it's not something you want to be doing every year.

are the rear brakes drums? The second problem sounds like the shoe is sticking to the drum, it's not really a problem as long as it stops shortly after moving the car but you could probably sort it out by stripping the drum mechanism down, cleaning all the moving parts up, greasing up the mechanism (obviously not getting any grease on the friction material on the shoes or the contact surface of the drum itself) and putting it back together. Not particularly hard if you have a haynes manual.

I think its the front drivers side thats making the noise.

Hi guys.... had a development to the worse I'm afraid....

My polo now is making a terrible knocking noise when i got over 35 ish. Seems to stop when i dip the clutch which would rule out suspenssion etc.... anyway, it also seems to get worse the warmer the car is, or maybe coincidence. but once its been parked up for a couple of hours its not as bad. another point is it makes the noise when pulling away too. :(

Could be the clutch release bearing giving up. Do you have any problems selecting gears?

seems fine into gears. but thinking about it sometimes when i turn the engine over the gear stick like rattles. This related to the clutch release bearing you think?

gearsticks do move as the engine moves, nothing to worry about.

I'd suggest the noise is the clutch release bearing too. Gearbox off job to replace, might as well do the whole clutch while your at it.
