Insurance - Which Is Cheaper? - Mk2 Polo Or Mk4 Polo

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am looking to get my first car soon. I haven't passed my test but i will be doing it soon.

Any way i have been offered a Mk4 polo 1.4l from around 1996 for about £500 but i was wondering how much insurance is gonna cost and will it be a lot more expensive than insurance for a mk2 polo from around 1990? I am 18 btw if that helps.

Thanks for your help,

Marcus

id say the older car would be cheaper,

check on confused.com or something similar, just bodge the pass date so they think your a new license holder,

it only takes 5 minutes

when i was 17, it cost me £1300 for my mk2 1043cc with 35% dicount from Coop, now my second year (I'm 18) is £620 with Morethan, big drop:P

Just renewed my Mk2 with the following:

http://www.lancasterinsurance.co.uk/

£118 fully comp as a low mileage (2k) / classic car with zero NCD.

I've double plus a bit on your age however, so that may count against.

its cheaper for me to insure my mk3 GT than mk 1.4 8v mk4!. old car.....

Proberly the Mk4, Its cheaper for me to insure a Mk3 GT as a third car compared to the Mk2 Coupe S as the Mk2 would have to be insured on a classic policy which is more as my other cars are on a modified policy.

mk2 is cheaper. might vary depending on company, but cheaper for me on elephant
