yea as hollypop says unless u leave it riding on stilts or have major stretch you will be very lucky.... as there used to be a 6n2 round my way with 17" a8 reps on ... dunno how but it looked gash

Stambo runs them on his 6N2 and it looks good IMO but it has to be lowered enough to pull them off. For this to happen without major issues I think tyre profiles and offset are key.

iv got a mate with a 6n2 rolling on 17's. it works but its very high.

personally i would go for no bigger than 15 and lower.

and get a spare gearbox with them 17's.

I run with 17's on myn and is lowered by 40mm.

i have 17"s on my polo and i wish i never bought them to be honest the car sits to high and the ride is shit you feel every bump and pot hole and the body roll is a joke,i am swaping my 17"s for some bbs gti wheels

87.75 mm is the sidewall height of a 195/45/15, the sidewall height of a 185/35/17 is 64.75mm

That is a difference of 23 mm.

Considering a 17 inch rim is 50.8 mm (2 inches) bigger than a 15 inch rim, a 17 inch rim with a 185/35/17 tyre is in fact 27.8 mm or a bit over an inch bigger than a 15 inch rim with a 195/45/15 tyre.

Reasons against getting 17s include -

- reduced acceleration

- worse handling, steering will also feel heavier

- increased wear on components such as gearbox

- decreased fuel efficiency

- increased body roll

- tractor like ride height, even if you lower the car that just takes away the arch gap and makes you scrub on the 17s, the actual bottom of the car will still be a mile up off the road.

- look out of proportion to the car, too big

- tyres are dear as fuck

- just looks crap

well said that man! i can't be bothered to explain yet again why NOT to fit massive wheels on your little car which is prone to gearbox failure.

My 6N2 with 17s... As you all se i have a HUGE gap between the arch and the wheels! I have NO SCRUBBING BETWEEN WHEELS AND ARCH! I have a remaped TDI and I can not feel any difrent with 17s or 15s.. Same fuel efficincy... Maches the arch radius perfekt! 14s are so small that it look gay..

185/35-17 is 561,3mm high

195/45-15 is 556,5mm high

195/50-15 is 576,0mm high (as MANY use)

195/40-16 is 562,4mm high (as MANY use)

As you can see, the 17s are smaller than 195/40-16 tires that is most jused with 16s... IF you can feel the diffrent of a tyre that are 5mm higher, you have problems with your nerves :p

Wheels weigh more than tyres... big wheels weigh lots

i got 16inch alloys and these are ok but i would prefer a 15inch alloy, u can feel the diffrance in speed,acceluration and the steering is a bit heavier,, also mines dropped a fair bit, only slight scrubbin

16s are too big as well though lol

your front arch looks to be over the tyre how do you steer lol

i dont know what the roads are like where your from, i know i was in germany a few times and the roads are like glass so its ok to run like you but you cant get away with shit like that in the uk the roads are too bad...

a remapped tdi probly has enough torque that the extra weight doesnt make a difference to fuel economy, but on a petrol it would. as for your handling, if you dont notice a difference between those 17s and 15 something is up.

looks awesome though on your car cos you have lowered it enough to pull it off but as said over here you can get away with that shit

i had mine off ebay and they said mine was 15 inch so thats y i had them look nice and 15 is max but when i had them deliverd they were 16 inch,, i was not happy with that but will do for now,, i prefer a 15 inch,, mine will be up for sale in the next few weeks

At the end of the day you mod the car to your tastes...I always liked the look of huge wheels on jap cars, and i always liked the low and wide wheels look too

his car does look nice on those 17's in my opinion...
