Iyts not 60/40 apparentley. PhilJ sent me the wrong springs for the front. Its actually down 80 or 90 on the front.

Anyway no pictures to update with.

However, I'm picking a new box up tonight from Skatty_01 as mine went bust on Saturday.

New springs from PhilJ are in the post so as of next week it should be sitting properly and not scraping the floor everywhere which has caused some damage to the exhaust not to mention the steering components and inner wings etc.

Going to weld inner wing up this weekend and fit new box, repaint steering arms and the hole that they poke through. Should handle and look a lot better with this lot sorted! :)

Then if i can get my new wheels this weekend they should be going to Mon-Fab aka POLOMON for a quick refurb and then pop some tyres on and it should be done exterior wise.

That just leaves me with, a 4 branch and full system to fit and some pressed plates and the car is finished.

@ Carver, i think its the best colour for a GT :) It polishes up so so well! I look forward to buying your 1.6 GT off you haha, i read that build thread everyday and check for updates. If your ever at a show id love a passenger ride.

@ Alex, yeah i was i saw your when i nipped back to get some cash. Yours looked nice, what really really pissed me off was i spent four hours cleaning and polishing it only to drive through the car park and out of the other side and across the road. My fan bearings aren't to healthy so squeal when it engages. Felt silly sat in traffic with everyone staring at me :(. that show has outgrown its venue. Strangely the fan bearings don't squeal anymore?? Just runs fine lol.

If yours is as mint as it looks and I carn't get a good quote on a mk2 Golf Gti, I would be interested in doing a swap

I'm going to be at some shows hopefully this year i'll take you for a spin, should be running more power by then fingers crossed

Expect udates after the 3rd April as I have 3 weeks off uni so i'll be getting some jobs done then. Hopefully fitting the GT cam and some bodywork.

Spent 7 hours doing the gearbox today and all is on but cant put any oil in it. snapped 2 spanners trying to get the nut thingy off where you pour the oil in. So my dad is welding a tool up to get it out tomorrow.

However I'm unsure whether the box I've been sold is a dud. Theres oil all over the part that sits with the clutch so i think it might have a leak. Also i dont think its a GT box from what i can make out. My GT box had a few raised metal lnies on top of it yet this one doesn't. Is there a code to identify a GT box? if so where abouts?

You and me both! I don't have a hose at my house, so I had to pay to use a jetwash and clean it up before polishing it and blacking the bumpers up. After all that, I reckon you're probably the only person who'd have seen it, it was so far away from everything. And, to make matters worse, my sodding clutch release bearing let go on the way home so I've not been able to use it since. I might as well have taken the Passat.

If it's a GT box if you look at the flat bit along the top of the surface which mates with the engine (under the thermostat housing) there should be a code beginning AHD.

get a sump plug attachment , it will sit in the hexaganal recess fine and will undo easily with a ratchet , thats what i did with mine

Mate, I'm 99% sure that i checked that box and found it to be an AHD... I remember us having this worry with a gearbox demolover got, and after that we all ended up checking to make sure we had the right box!

The leaked oil was from when i drained it out, like a retard i held it the wrong way up over the bowl and made a mess all over myself, the box and the drive. I also thought that we'd left one of the drain plugs slightly loose for you too, if its hella tight I'm guessing MrP was a bit over-keen to stop it leaking.

I'd be stunned if it wasn't an AHD code box, i bought an original unmolested GT and stripped it myself for the conversion, the engine looked like it hadn't even been touched before i whipped it out.

Well its fitted, selects gears but its still up on ramps so haven't actually started or drove it yet. Got a tool being welded up as we speak to get the plug out to pour oil in to it.

And the rest! Would be rude to take the gearbox off and not fit one with a Quaife LSD.

(My G40 box is at Quaife as we speak, and I've got a Helix clutch kit due to arrive in the next week or so)

Haha no worries, i realise how pikey it looked meeting you where i did, as i was leaving the house it just made sense to save you a longer trip, so feel free to PM me if you have any doubts or troubles with the box.

We got lucky with a mallet, a spanner and a wheel bolt with that drain plug, but having a decent tool welded up would make things much easier. I don't know why we haven't already got one tbh!

And yeah i was quite chuffed that i managed to remove it all before you arrived, we got the engine out and the car is pretty much ready for the scrappers now, just needed a reason to go strip it all off! Ended up dropping the engine down onto the upturned bonnet and lifting the front of the shell while MrP dragged the lump out using the bonnet as a sledge... Proper pikey car stripping skills lol.

If you do have any troubles let me know dude, i can't see why there would be though.

how do you find that suspention stiffness. is it fairly comfy for road use?

I did slightly regret selling my 1984 coupe s running a GT engine i put in with a weber DMTR but i had to move onto other things so i thought i will buy my 1st mk3 polo. and it had to be a GT and luckly it was a square love the square shapes. aswell as the coop.

I got a poloace chip with raised rev limit 8k also WE Liz and i fitted my Newman 264 cam. goes much better now. What a difference the chip makes. What fun it is in 2nd 3rd well all the gears really. Well worth the money.

Am saving up for a philj manifold next. as still got the Stock poop exhaust and cat at the moment.

How much did you pay for the GT if you dont mind me asking as i saw it at the rolling road day and it does look clean.

Hiya, as I said earlier mate, have a look on the top of the bellhousing underneath where the thermostat housing would be. On the top face there should be a code stamped into it, which should say AHD somewhere in it. You'll probably have to clean it first though.

No pictures to update with but had a bump in this a couple of week ago at 20mph, going to pick up the new front end for it tonight bar the wings as they are still intact.

Will update with crash pictures soon and some pictures of it from the bodyshop depending on what they quote me.

Hoping to have it back and put some dish on it that i have sourced from a friend. Should look miles better than before the carash as I'm getting all the dents taken out that it had and the random axe mark on the rear quarter lol!

If the quote is to much then i wont be repairing it and it will be game over for me!! :(:(:(
