Insurance !

Featured Replies

hey I'm just taking my lessons and everything so i can get on the road and my mum is an insurance broker (so she knows what shes talking about) and she's been going on about me getting a new car (something more practical) because she says ill be paying my £2000 and if i have an accident or it gets vandalised/nicked then she says my excess will overweigh the value of my car and they will write it off so I'm going to be paying all this money just to be legal not to actually cover my car, and its just really pissing me off i just think the system so shite nowadys for young people.

sorry for the rant lol

Nope dont say sorry where all in the same boat and it sucks mate, had a my 1st crash didnt bother with insurance wanted to keep no claims, then had a 2nd but had to go through insureance then lost everything no claims etc well annoying

if your excess is more than the value of your car then go 3rd party.

If you have a crash and its your fault, you get nothing. If you had of been fully comp then your excess would of covered the cost of the car, and just the same- you get nothing.

If you have a crash and it is someone elses fault- you are claiming off their insurance, so your excess doesnt matter. wether you are fully comp of third party.

Thanks for that, at least i know which insurance type to go for now! and yeah, the system really doesn't work for younger drivers, but were the minority, so why change whats good for most. thats what i'm always told...

Its high for us as we are more likely to do silly things

In years to come you wont care how much you spent when you were younger, bite the bullet and go on your own insurance at when your 21+ the price wont seem that bad, get to 25+ and its great.

x2

then once you get a few years no claims you can actually start insuring cars worth having for reasonable sums of money

i agree with kerrly. i can say it now.. but when i first learnt to drive i drove like a complete idiot. most young people do.

none admit it, but most do.

me too... tailgating, speeding, being a general dick etc! these days i'm much more relaxed but still give it the royal bananas when needs be!

it would be rude not to....

it would be rude not to....

For sure ;)

What pisses me off is when you take out insurance, you're asked for the value of the car yet when they come to value it after an accident, they only want to give you 1% of that figure!

That's what "agreed value" is for. Got my camper insured under a policy which does this. In the event of a claim, the agreed value is what you get in the event of a total loss, and its used when deciding whether its economical to repair.
