Fist of all, I was shocked when my garage told me that my new mk6 polo didn't have cenrtral locking! It's a 2002! I thought nearly all cars came with that as standard! Also I don't have an alarm :(

To save confusion I will just tell you what I would like, then hopefully someone can advise me on what to buy and how to go about it.

I would like to be able to, with the press of a button

1) Lock all doors AND BOOT!

2) Activate an alarm

3) 'Pop' my boot open

The kits don't seem too expensive on eBay. I'm just unsure on what to buy exactly, since I want to do all of these things, but have them all working together.

The MK6 definately came with central locking without a doubt.

With regards to the older Punto having it as standard I don't think that's relevant as some older cars have things standard that new ones don't. For example the MK5 GTI had xenons as standard whereas you have to pay to have them on as an optional extra on the MK7.

Thanks man, you see this garage has really fecked me over! I handed the car in with many problems highlighting this as the main one. They said they opened the door and made sure it had no central locking. He didn't however seem convincing! So you are sure, sure it came with central locking as standard?

They may not come with an alarm, but the basic 1.2E model came with power assisted locks as standard. You may not be able to do them from the remote but you may have to insert your key into the lock to open all the doors, but it definately has power assisted locks.

You can get alarm kits from eBay, but your best bet would be to get a good branded Clifford/ Toad alarm etc. With these you get the basic alarm kit which activates the alarm and locks all the doors and boot from a remote, and you can also upgrade them to enable remote boot popping and engine starting etc.

I was relieved to find it but couldn't understand why it wasn't working. I went to look for the fuse box for the central locking which is usually under the dash (number 50). There was none there.

Conclusion: The car is wired for central locking but doesn't have it.

Where do I go from here :(

Take it to an auto electrician or a garage and get them to check it over. I never bother fiddling with electrics if the problem is greater than an unplugged plug or fuse.

You should also chase up the dealer you bought it from, as it is selling under false pretences.

Good man. If you were going for sarcasm, you've failed. No need for that here. If you read the topic you would realize I have been contemplating installing a whole new system (locking and alarm). So to answer your question, yes that's a fix but not a solution to what I want to do.

not being funny but i would try a fuse in the central locking socket as well. If central locking works (which it might...) fitting am alarm is a peice of cake. a lot less work than installing new central locking and an alarm.

You take it to a garage, first thing they will do is put a fuse in, and if it works, probably charge you for a load of labour they didnt even do.

I bought a 6n without central locking, but it wasnt an 'l' model... so i knew it did have it.

Got it home, replaced the central locking pump in the boot and it was sorted.

That falcon alarm look alright, but..
