6n 1.6 At 17....

Featured Replies

I already own a 1.6 6n polo, its currently sat in my back garden! I really want to mod it (only wheels, coilies and de badging) thing is i cant find insurance, I know its a fairly high powered car for me (although being an 8v its not really setting the world on fire....) but I cannot find a company that will insure me for under 2k with mods declared. I can get 1800 with no mods..

Iv heard rumours of companies that dont increase premium for mods, I think one was quinn, which is a no go for me, they quoted me 5k on the car! are there any others? and is there anyone else around thats managing to insure a similar car at a similar age?!

all help is apreciated, since I need to insure the polo within the next 2 days if i can do it, if not I'm going to be stuck in my corsa for a year! which I really dont want to do! I want to get modding, in a dub! :(

adrian flux quoted me £2500! and i think that was TPFT. But they did also want £1600 to insure my 1.0 corsa with no mods... TPFT.

Good luck getting anything under 2k on a 1.6 at 17 which is modified....

Try bell, they're probably your best bet.

Its annoying, since in fairness there not even that quick off the mark! Looks like Il have to sell up, maybe sell up the polo too and get a 1.4 or somthing.

Anyone insured with bell on a 1.4 6n, at 17 with coilies and rims? What sorta premium we talking?

Hmm well I tried a quote with bell on a 1.4 with sus and rims, and they want 2987!

my 1.6 capri was £1300ish with tesco at 18?

my 1.6 capri was £1300ish with tesco at 18?

presumably not modified though? tesco are rubbish for modified cars. I think you'll have a hard time getting much under 2k for a modified car at 17.

Same problem here :(

That doesnt matter though, my friend put a 1.4 escort into a wall at 40mph and the wall cost 24k to rebuild....................

was in the same situation as u 3yrs ago..norwich union..put my dads name in there too.. under 1k

£200 extra to lower and put alloys on. i pay a lot less than that, but I'm 27 in a 1,4 8v, with loads of no claims.

At 17, in a 1.6.... i would say £200 extra to mod isnt bad? maybe I'm wrong tho.

wow your clever, so when you do have a crash (which believe it or not, isnt impossible!) you wont be covered.

my insurance turned around and said my insurance was void after an accident this week, it wasnt my fault, and they said it was because i had none standard wheels on. thing is, those wheels were solitudes, standard from the factory. WTF! lots of arguements later it was sorted.

so watch out people, churchill fuck you over for standard alloys! :)

Well yeah i know that.

But i was just saying as a example i dint say.

DO IT, DONT TELL THEM THEY WILL LIKE IT

did i? i just said it as an option

because, believe it or, people actually do that

yeah my dads gotta clio, alloys standard with it, but hes swapped em and they told him he had to let them know. even though it didnt even effect his claims etc.

sorry my bad shouldnt have been so snobby lol :)

Not snobby at all, the amount of people with mods on here- either just alloys, or seriously modified cars, and they have it insured as a totally standard 1.0L... its shocking.

Think about it guys, what is the penalty for driving without insurance?

Yeah i dint think it was snobby or owt.

But like i said, people actually do it.

I mean i personally think its stupid that you have to tell them stuff like alloys.

i mean what different does it make really.

i mean if u have like a 1l polo and u drop a stuid sized engine in it, then yeah you should have to tell them lol.

think someone above said something about some insurance companies not been bothered about mods etc..

mine is all ok with it too.

Of course its stupid, its ridiculous that putting a different plastic grille on the car should increase your insurance premium. car Insurance is the biggest scam out

The fact is.. thats the way it is.. and cheating insurance is a no win situation.

Just have to swallow it for a few years...

Adrian flux told me as long as your mods don't affect the bhp it doesn't make a differnce to the quote wen i declared my car being lowered etc.

could just be fact its a 1.6 lol

Was this recent Jose?

just got my valver insured no years no claims at 18 fully comp on my own.... 1300 quid.

directline for the win

directline have been alright for me till i wanted to insure mods and just about wanted double! insurance companies vary for everyone looooaaads tbh
