Having a sub in the boot can be really annoying at times, especially when driving hungover mates home the morning after.

I've decided that rather have it on all the time, I will install a switch. I don't know how you guys would do it but I am planning on just switching the remote wire.

Anyways, it's an easy job to do in itself, what I came to ask:

I've got a rear window heater switch lying here, and was thinking I may be able to use it for the sub, because it would light up when turned on.

Thing is, it looks more complicated than I hoped, not just a case of soldering two wires onto it. Just wondering if anyone here knows if it would be possible to hook it up. There are 5 pins inside it, which would I need to solder to?

just buy a standard switch flick switch and mount it in the dash, near the headunit, then just connect the remote wire to it :)

it will be a case of crimping 2 spade crimps onto the wire, and connect the spades to the spades on the back of the switch.

probs about £5 for the switch and crimps.

much easier than using your existing switch.

iv done exactly what you want to do.

went to a scrappy, got an extra rear heater switch and attached my amp power cable to it. mine dosnt light up however.

you want to connect your power cable, or remote cable to the 2 biggest wires that connect to the switch(cant remember the colour). the other 2 wires that connect to the switch are for powering the LED inside the switch. suppose you could make it light up by connecting those wires to your existing rear heater switch. (dont know what kind of circuit you would have to create to make it work tho.

it'll be easy to do with a wiring diagram...

Right I jammed a screwdriver behind the existing switch and ripped it out. I had a quick look at the existing wiring but I couldn't work it out, and I have no multimeter to test.

My camera is currently out of battery so I instead I fired up MS Paint! :) This is a basic diagram of the wires going into the switch:

Anyone here know what each of the wires are, or am I going to be buying a multimeter tomorrow?

9 times out of 10 brown is earth Yellow will be feed out and red will be feed in. Don't know what grey is though.

just get a good pioneer and you can turn it of with the HU.

i done mine yesterday.

i just went to halfords n got a switch, cut a hole in the spare button under the rear window heater switch, then i cut the remote wire and joined it to the swich and there you go.

on and off sub.

i do it the old fashioned way, keep swapping the terminals until it does what you want it to do! I'd say the red & yellow are power, brown is earth and grey is output but i'm only guessing.

get a headunit that allows you to turn the sub output off/control the intensity of bass going to the amp...

Finally found some time today to have a look at it again. I've come to the conclusion that the switch I have isn't suitable for the job, or at least I can't work it out myself. The rear window heater only works when the ignition is on, and the switch itself isnt an on/off switch, its basically just a push button. I think if I had a spare hazard switch then I could use that, but not this one.

I dont wanna buy a new HU, simply because I can't afford to. The one I have isn't that bad anyway.

Looks like I will have to use a normal switch. Oh well, at least I tried lol

haha, told you itd be alot easier to put a normal flick switch in. :p

just turn it off on the head unit ie sub off. easy enogh do with heater swich too
