doin more paint strippin now on the wheels was just wondering what the original bare metal should look like because its shiney under the silver surface and matte under the black painted areas? should i use sand paper to take the shine off of the shiney areas?

cant wait to see this.....good pregress dude!!

would i be right in thinking you go to so vag? southampton dub meet?

  • Author

ye i do go there been twice now isnt your polo up for sale well i saw it for sale breakin at the last sovag?

cheers mctangus, do you no if its hit metal when its shiny or do i have to make it a matte effect before painting?

Are you painting the whole wheel or are you polishing the dishes...?! If your painting the whole wheel all you need to do is key it all up, and paint it!! You dont need to nitromoors the whole wheel as they paint on your cups looks fine....just polish the dishes and sand the centres with 400 grit, primer them, paint them and then laquer them!!!

nice one mate, i really look forward to gettin em on :-o

if the original paint is good and dosnt have any major dips or imperfections, all you need to do is key the paint up with 400 grit and re-paint the wheel!! NO NEED FOR NITROMOORS! Its a complete mission getting all the paint off and its not neccassary if the original paint is in good nick! If you've already gone down to the metal in patches you will need to key up the metal and use etch primer on the metal bits, then key that up with 400 grit....as well as the rest of the wheel....and apply normal primer, then paint...then laquer.....

cheers lads yer ill have a look on monday if i go :)

done some more on the cups today starting keying one of them up and not very pleased as its a bit patchy due to the paint stripper, so I've decided to carry on with the stripper to take off all of the laquer and paint and then i will key it up ready for paint as i dnt want to have any lumps on the final look.

Also want to buy a cople of reclining bucket seats and maybe a new smaller steering wheel with a boss if anyone has any going cheap :)

o and sellin a bluetooth touch screen av a ganders in the I.C.E Section :p

done some more yesterday found that its a lot easier if u just put the paint stripper on the wheels and then leave it like a day then come back. much easier to take off. I was guna just key up the wheels with half of the paint off but now I've decided not to and to take off all of the paint with the stripper hopefully for a better finish :)

also has anyone got any pics of 6ns with 3 bucket seats in?

  • Author

well just orderd some coilovers off philj so hopefully should get them some time next week and have them fitted next saturday :)

been workin on the wheels a bit but the snow has had me away from them :(

I've stripped the paint off of 1 more or less

2 still need quite a bit of work and the sandblasted one is ready for primer :)

what i was going to ask was do i need to key up the sandblasted rim before primer or is it ready to go?

and should i primer and paint them all at the same time or one at a time?

You should probably key up the wheel for primer yeah....if i was you i'de paint two wheels at a time! That way, as theres only 2 instead of 4, you wont miss any bits and the finishes will be more similar!!
