well if its got road tax then it can be on the road? but surley it can sit on the road un-insured because it cant crash into some 1 whilst it sitting therE? and te only way it guna need to claim off any form of insrance is if sumone hits the ar then u claim of thier insrancE? just my 2ps worth

I'm in the same boat really except theres a grass verge outside my house and we need to fill in part of a dyke before we can have a driveway Thats gonna cost too much to do at present. I cant afford to keep my G40 and bready insured at the same time if i'm only using 1 car.

I'm gonna wait and see what happens. I live out in the wilds so we dont see many police out here!

Well i know people that do bangers racing, so they have yards.

I think my nans garage is empty and my brothers has just got a setee in it, its just the fact that i want it at home so i can do little bits to it as and when i want, instead of having to trek it to wherever it is.

This situation happened to me remember, 3 cars parked outside my house, first one got hit, hitting all 3 of mine plus my neighbours car, my neighbour is having to claim off me and i then have to claim off the third party that hit me.

But from my looking into it I dont think its an official law that you have to have a car insured to park on a public road, just taxed. As you cant get charged with 'driving without insurance' if you dont drive the car. Could be wrong though.

Thing is, if your handbrake fails and your car rolls into your neighbour's new BMW, what's gonna happen then? Still needs to be insured!

That may be the law in Ireland mate but it's not the law in the UK

theres no chance I'm getting insured on it till i wanna drive it. what's the point?? if it gets nicked it gets nicked and i'll have lost a few hundred quid... but I'm not forking out for a years insurance (£1500) for no reason. pathetic.

Welcome to a well known government taxation tactic. It's called "batter the easy target". That way they can say they're doing something about uninsured drivers. In reality all they'll get is those people in a situation like yours, who require little or no effort to track down, and those who are flagrantly driving around with no insurance will continue to get away with it.

I'd suggest you park with steering on full lock pointing to the curb, parked close into the curb, handbrake on and in gear, it will still get took by the police if they wanted to, but it would make it a LOT harder for them.

My dad is a trader and has a recovery truck, we had to go and pick a car up for his mate who had lost the keys and didn't want the steering lock snapping or any forced entry into the car, it took us well over an hour to get it onto the back of the truckbecause of the steering and in gear and curb.
