I believe they have larger discs up front and definitely the Gti has rear discs

When u say brakes i assume u mean calipers, followers etc etc...? not just discs n pads ?? lol

8v hubs have the calliper carriers as a part of the hub whereas 16v hubs have the carrier bolted on so it can be changed, so you will most likely need a set of 16v hubs, unless 6n2 ones will fit?
