So Lets Speed! - My Your Clever!

Featured Replies

The seatbelt bit is VERY silly, it fooks me off when mates jump in and dont belt up.

BUT, i used to do a ton daily going to my old job, its a propper huge national speed limit old Roman Road (So nice and straight!) and I'm crap getting out of bed in the morning so I'm always speeding to work.

Depends on the car as well as faster/performance/hot hatch cars can get up to a ton easy and normaly have brakes to slow them down quicker as well.

when everyone gets off their high horse i'm sure 99% of forum users have broken the speed limit unknowingly or not and i'm sure most of them have cracked a ton.

You make it sound so casual, "cracking the ton". Speed is a relative issue. It's the speed that you are travelling towards other objects on the road that causes the danger. (And the associated reaction times). I would say that the majority of us may be breaking speed limits on the motorway, but I'm never going faster than the other cars around me. It's the idiot who is going considerably faster than everyone else that is alarming - this is where 100+ is completely inappropriate. Most people on the motorway are not doing that sort of speed.

And before you think I'm being some holier than thou arsehole, yes, I have "cracked the ton", as you put it, but that was 165kph on a de-restricted section of the German Autobahn in a car that could easily cope with it, and in the context of other traffic doing similar speeds.

This is wrong in my opinion. I don't believe speed to be a big factor in the devastating side of things. Speed is of NO bad thing if it can be controlled, which, admittedly, a lot of newer drivers cannot do, such as in this case. But, if a person knows how to handle the speed, handle the car, drives at higher speeds in appropriate conditions. The only fault there can usually be is other road users, or unexpected occurrences.

I can tell you now, that on the motorway, while i'm "cracking the ton" it is NEVER me at fault that nearly causes a collision, it's the dickhead in the middle lane who decides to pull out into the outside lane to overtake a van that they don't have to power to do so in that short space of time it takes for me to arrive where they are, and due to the fact they didn't look, and pulled out, causes me to have to slam on.

It's sheer ignorance, such as these company vehicle drivers and over-confidence of teenagers and 20 odd year old men with their new audi, who think they can take on the power that they're vehicles have that kill, not speed.

I've not pulled out on you have i? ^ :p

if people actually started driving their cars how they were sposed to the speed wouldnt be an issue...

charged with dangerous driving without a belt

I never knew a belt effected how severe dangerous driving can be. Guess you shouldn't wear baggy trousers and drive!

I love the quote "Any of these 17 drivers could easily have caused a death or serious injury on our roads. "

So could everyone who ever gets behind the wheel though....they could fall asleep, have a heart attack, lose concentration for a second and smash into oncoming traffic, or simply be too unfit/old to be driving. The people that give these statements to the media need to seriously think before they speak. Statisticly more sober people crash than drunks, and more accidents happen at or less than the speedlimit than over it, so what's their point? It's like doctors - no-one congratulates them when they save a life, but when they do something slightly wrong.....well.....Bellends.Bellends.
